I looked through this notesfile...can't find this one:
customer has two identical machines - AS 4100's running 6.2-1h3. One
machine shows up:

He is concerned about the 4100 VS the 4X00. Any ideas why?
Thanks,
Karen

618.1 | console env var SYS_MODEL_NUM | GIDDAY::FLAWN | | Thu May 22 1997 04:53 | 13 |
|
This is controlled by console variable SYS_MODEL_NUM. Same deal for
Turbolaser (8200/8400). Because the machines are basically the same (as
far as parts are concerned) within a family it gets determined by
console.
Licensing and other software interested in the machine type use it,
otherwise it shouldn't matter.
>>> set SYS_MODEL_NUM 4100
Regards,
Dave.

| The SRM console SYS_TYPE environment variable (EV) is also used -
possible values are RACKMOUNT and PEDESTAL.
SYS_MODEL_NUM=4X00 is the default. This can happen either because MFG
does not set it properly (4100 versus 4000) or because someone clears
the ESC NVRAM's SRM console EV storage region via the CLEAR_SRM_NVRAM
console script or via manual deposits. I'm not sure how spare PCI
motherboards (Saddles) are initialized re: SYS_MODEL_NUM and SYS_TYPE.
However, I believe I saw somewhere in the upgrade/install instructions
that the user is supposed to set these two variables after swapping or
adding a Saddle.
