601.0. "Fans in rack? " by NQOS01::16.135.24.5::Pellerin () Wed May 14 1997 01:36

Question 1: Does the new rack (H9A10-EL) with the dual power supplies ship
with fans at the top of the rack like the old SBU rack or have you completely
switched over to the CSS rack (which I believe has no fans)?

Question 2: My customer recently took shipment of a 4100 cluster. We ordered
the System Management Station Kit (H4020-AA), my first experience with this
kit. We were a bit dissapointed at the quality - the drawer didn't close
properly and required a field modification (cardboard under the keyboard so it
would close smoothly). But tanacity prevailed and all seems well (if a bit
flimsy).

OK so here is the question: Are the monitors that should ship with these kits
in supply now? We were short-shipped the monitor. As I am about to order
this kit (again) for a "SUN-Centric" customer - I don't want any fumbles at
the 2 yard line.

Also is there any chance of improving the quality of this kit from the vendor
we purchase it from (I am assuming here that we get this ala OEM...).

In a rack system this is a decent answer to pulling up tables next to the rack
to hold the monitor(s) keyboard(s) and Mouse, mice etc....

Hi,

The -EL rack is based on the -EJ. The -EJ was a joint design effort with CSS.
The fan tray (and StorageWorks shelf) are added to the -EL to make it easier to
order. The fan tray does two things. One it cools the storage. Two it provides
12V to the 4x00 RCM module. So this is a 4x00 specific fan tray kit. This should
answer question 1.

On question 2 did you have the H4020 installed at the factory? If so they should
be notified (Quality IPMT?) that the installation was not done properly. The
design was actually done by CSS so we have nobody else to blame.

I have no idea if the plants have the monitors in stock.
