554.0. "Disk indicators meaning?" by VAXRIO::CUPOLILLO () Mon Mar 31 1997 10:50

       Hi,

After installing a 4100 system with a three-channel KZPSC, with
three disks configured in RAID 5 and distributed in two BA356 in the
    following configuration:

       First BA356: SPLIT-BUS
BUS 0 - One RZ29B-VW connect to another PCI SCSI-2 controller
               (system disk)
BUS 1 - One RZ28M-VA attached to KZPSC channel 0

       Second BA356: SPLIT-BUS
       BUS 0 - RZ28M-VA attached to KZPSC channel 1
       BUS 1 - RZ28M-VA attached to KZPSC channel 2

We are facing the following problem: When we turn on the system the
red led of the disk connected to KZPSC channel 1 turns on, during the
boot the same led turns off and the system boots ok, also the Mylex
software (SWXCR) reports no errors. After a system shutdown the led
remains off, but when we turn off the system the red led comes on
again. Even with the red led on we see the disk in READY/OPTIMAL
status under SWXCR. The BA356 continues to receive AC power even when
    the system is turned off.

Is this a normal behavior, the customer is asking why the red led
turns on in the conditions presented above.

The KZPSC board revision is B, with 2.36 firmware, and all RZ28
    disks are revision 616.

       Thanks,

       Cupol
