Starting to put WindowsNT up on a 4100. The 4100 is just sitting out in the computer room right now. It's the small cabinet with one RZ28 already loaded. We have two RZ29s and a TZ88N tape drive to add in. I was just wondering if there are any things I need to look out for in regards to setting it up and doing the install of WindowsNT. It arrived to WindowsNT 3.51. The customer is trying to get Windows 4.0. Appreciating any responses. Thanks.

I was told by the Salesman that a technical person told him that we would need to have the customer purchase this QB-4FAAA-SA (a firmware patch kit for the 4100) The product description in Business Link Part Number Lookup Results dated 22 October 1996 says this includes: Alpha AXP Sys FRMWRE CD AG-PWBYM-TE Alpha AXP Sys SFW RL NTS AA-PWBYM-TE ECU DISKETTE DEC AXP AK-PYCJJ-CA Windows NT 3.51 Rel Note AK-QHCSB-CA Alpha System Upd Win NT SRL AV-QM1NA-TH I found the firmware updates on the web and was wondering if I could just fetch it from there. Do I need all the items listed above and are those available on the web? Or do I have the customer purchase the part number suggested at the beginning of this mail message? Appreciating any responses.

The Alpha FW Update CD contents are indeed released via the Web. The FW release notes are also available there. Can't speak for the Windows NT 3.51 release notes or the Alpha System Upd Win NT SRL.. However, you should know that ECU is only available via floppy diskette. There are no Web-available versions of the ECU. ECU is only required if: 1. Your customer will be using any ISA/EISA options (instead of PCI only). Especially if adding/removing options from factory defaults or moving EISA/ISA options around. 2. Your customer will be booting an operating system type other than that which is factory-installed on his/her machine. Example: the system comes FISed with Digital UNIX bits, but the customer wants to run Windows NT and/or Digital UNIX. MFG should have therefore run the UNIX/VMS vriant of ECU on that machine. An NT ECU diskette would be required to boot NT. I.e. there are two different flavors of the ECU diskette. One for Windows NT and another for UNIX/VMS. P.S. I'm familiar with the NT kits, so don't know whether the kit is required for reasons other than technical content; i.e. not sure about whether any possible legal/licensing issues.
