We have a 4100 in our demo center that has had power problems since it arrived... if I were a real customer, I'd have returned it by now. We have logged 4 calls on the same power supply problem, and they have replaced the power supply 4 times. It lasts a while and then dies. The SOC says that one power supply should handle 2 CPUs and 512 Mbytes of memory. Field Service says we need a second power supply - I wonder who is going to pay for it? f The part number says that is a Seed Unit... what impact does that have on the implied quality of the product. Thanks! Patti

Contact Lois Musser. She is/was the seed unit coordinator. Blowing 4 power supplies is quite unusual. Something else may be going on. If field service says they want to install a second power supply they can. But engineering would not support this. If the unit says it was a SEED system it means that it was built with pre/early revenue components. Quality varries depending on exactly when the unit was built. Dennis | |||||

We had similar problems with our seed, and after MCS read some update-this-and-that-field-service-flash it just stopped. IF I recall it correctly ( I repeat: IF), it was some kind of FCO for the mother board which carries the cpu's and other stuff that fixed the problem (it might have been CPU FCO as well). -jari |
