496.0. "Intermittent hangs w/ 3 CPU's D05/6/7-Rackmount" by ODIXIE::GUGLIELMO () Sat Feb 15 1997 19:09
I need to know if the FCO re. notes# 220.1 & 2 and #93.22 & 23.
In a rackmount/cabinet AS4100 I had added on two additional cpu's
to a system w/ 1GB memory(2 512's) and 2 B3002-AB cpu's at rev. D05
and D06 in CPU0 & CPU1 w/ 2 pwr supplies. The 2 new cpu's were at rev
D07. With the 4th cpu in-it would not boot up UNIX 4.0-a. During t/s
with tech support, possibly had one bad new cpu module. I left the
system up & running w/ 3 cpu's (2 orig. D05 & D06, and the 1 new D07).
Now the AS4100 intermittently hangs w/ the console graphics monitor
and the ocp totally going blank, w/ no response when trying the console
keyboard. There is no DECevent on the system, but the customer will
soon download & install it.
Downtime is very inconvenient for the customer, so T/S is at a minimum.
I am going back onsite in an hour, and at cust's request will remove
the 1 new CPU, and leave running w/ just the 2 original CPU's. I have
not yet checked the rev. on the PCM, but will now. They will soon get a
3rd pwr supply for N+1, and will want the sys "up & running" w/ all 4
working CPU's.(eventually)
Any ideas/suggestions?
I'm thinking of ordering 2 new CPU's at rev. D07 > and am not even sure
if that other 4th CPU is really bad?
or
If I modify the resistor(s) on the 2 original D05 & D06 CPU's, I'll
need additonal info. Will it actually solve the problem???
-rainy Saturday night blues....
