485.0. "CXI01-AA configuration problem" by ROMTSS::SCIMIA () Wed Feb 12 1997 04:36
Hi,
we've just been involved to install a new Digital AphaServer System
model 4000-4100. The customer has also purchased an asynchronous
multiplexer, made by DigiBoard, to allow direct connection of terminals
through an ISA host adapter but we aren't able to configure that option.
Scenario:
---------
AlphaServer mod 4000-4100
OpenVMS V6.2H3
SRM console V2.0-3
CXI01-AA (DigiBoard PC/Xem ISA adapter)
Referring to the DigiBoard Installation Manual we are using the following
CXI01-AA setting:
I/O port address : 324h (DIP switches 1,2 and 3 to ON position)
Jumpers : J1 (pins 2-3)
J2 (pins 1-2)
J3 (pins 1-2)
Vendor conf. file : !DBI0501.CFG
The ECU run properly and no conflicts among system resourse exist but
at power-up the console shows the following informations:
Probing IOD0 hose 0
BUS 0 slot 1 - PCEB
BUS 1 slot 3 - ???? <---------CXI01-AA slot position
A show config console command shows:
BUS 1 pceb0 (EISA Bridge connected to IOD0, slot 1)
SLOT OPTION NAME TYPE REV NAME
3 1054910 1054910 00001 unknown0
At the moment we suspect some bugs at the SRM console level then
We'd like to know if CXI01-AA is full supported on AlphaServer 4100
working with OpenVMS AXP V6.2H3
Thanks in advanced
Pino

| This simply means we (SRM console) don't have the various PCI device
IDs in our device tables. I.e. we don't recognize it.
This is a cosmetic issue only and will not negatively impact any work
your customer needs to do with this option. Have you tried using the
device with VMS? Someone else will have to answer whether it's
supported by OpenVMS V6.2-1H3.
Finally, newer versions of SRM console add generic support for device
recognition of devices not included in our device tables - at a class
level. This feature was added in V3.0-10 console.

485.2 | same problem using SRM V3.0-10 | ROMTSS::SCIMIA | | Wed Feb 12 1997 10:29 | 10 |

Thank for your quick answer but using SRM console V3.0-10 and booting
OpenVMS V6.2-1H3 we have the same problem.
The newer Alphaserver 4000/4100 Supported Option List refer at AlphaBios
5.28 and SRM 4.8-3 and "TO be determined" is indicated for OpenVMS support.
Any other suggestion is appreciate

| Sorry. Let me correct what I said in .1..
This is a cosmetic problem only. Console does not recognize the device.
This should have no impact on operation at the operating system level.
No SRM console release provides support (device recognition of these
cards). However, V3.0-10 consoles and later versions do add support for
recognizing devices that aren't found in our known device table at a
class level. But this is true only for PCI devices; not ISA devices..
