473.0. "TLZ 4mm DAT drive in pedestal, going to rack" by SWAM1::VELIJANIA_FR (Think AlphaGeneration) Sat Feb 08 1997 17:50

What happens to a pedestal based 4100 with a DAT drive when it needs to
be converted (in the field) into a rackmount? The internal DAT drive
(TLZ09) is not supported in rackmount. I thought a drawer was a drawer,
no matter if you installed it in a pedestal or a rack! Will field
service have to do modifications to the drawer?

    Thanks

Currently the one major difference between the rack and the pedestal mounting
scheme is the lack of support for the TLZ09 in a rack mounting configuration.
Officially 'conversion' of a pedestal into a rack mount (and vice-versa) is not
supported. It can be done but it takes some work. If the pedestal system may be
missing a 10 pin ribon cable which is needed in the rack config. There is
currently no document indicating how to do the conversion.

If you have a MCS person who knows the 4100 and they have a little help it can
be done in ~1 hour (depending on how many power supplies are in the drawer).

CSS has a full extension slide rail kit which the drawer sits on top of (same
mounting as the pedestal). The drawer can sit on this kit but the cab must have
a door.
