for a Digital UNIX system (AlphaServer 4100):
- When will we start shipping Ultra SCSI disks? Which ones?
- When will we support RAID configurations (KZPAC, not HSZxx) of Ultra SCSI
  disks.

It is a university, so latent support can do, for a while (provided that we
can ship products).

Thx,
Y.

468.1KZPAC available now in FAST10 modeMOVMON::DAVISFri Feb 07 1997 10:009
UltraSCSI is coming, I'm not sure giving the date in a public notesfile
is appropriate now. UltraSCSI compatibility will involve new disks and
storage shelves not yet qualified or available.

The next reply is a support statement is the just-released support
statement for the KZPAC. The statement explains UltraSCSI
    compatibility.

Subject: Statement of Support for KZPAC-AA/CA/CB on the AlphaServer
	   4000/4100

This is to notify you of support of the KZPAC-AA/CA/CB PCI to Fast Wide
Single-Ended SCSI backplane RAID controller on AS4000/AS4100 Systems.

	Supported options:
	  KZPAC-AA: 1 channel 4MB EDRAM cache
	  KZPAC-CA: 3 channel 4MB EDRAM cache
	  KZPAC-CB: 3 channel 8MB EDRAM cache

The minimum shippable KZPAC F/W revision: 2.42

The minimum shippable KZPAC Option/Hardware Revisions:
          KZPAC-AA/KZPAC-XD A02/E02
      	  KZPAC-CA/KZPAC-XE A03/E02
          KZPAC-CB/KZPAC-XF A03/E02

The minimum SRM console revision tested: 3.0-10

The minimum AlphaBIOS console revision tested: 5.24

The maximum number of adapters supported: 4

    	Operating system versions supported:
	  Digital UNIX 3.2G and 4.0A
          Windows NT 3.51 and 4.0
              dac960nt.sys NT driver revision 4.03H
          OpenVMS 6.2-1H3 and 7.1

 Notes:

 1. Although this controller has ultra SCSI capability, it will initially
ship at FRS as a FAST10 controller. Its default SCSI transfer parameter
will be set to FAST10 (10MHz). Ultra capability will be announced POST
FRS sometime during the Ultra Program rollout.

 2. Use the KZPAC-SB bulkhead connector to bring the KZPAC-CA/CB third channel
    out to the system bulkhead.

 Restrictions:

 1. RZ26N/RZ28M-VA/VW - There have been reported occurances of misc errors
(SCSI Command Timeouts) occuring with these drives which are caused by a
misrouted bobbin-wire causing servo oscillation. If your drive
experiences several these misc errors, replace your drive with one that
has a min date code "9619-4" which assures this problem is corrected.

 2. Tapes & CDROMs are not supported under UNIX and OpenVMS

 3. System hangs have been observed on AlphaServer 4000/4100 systems with
Mylex driver revisions older than 4.02 under Windows NT.

 4. SCSI timeout errors observed on AlphaServer 4000/4100 with Mylex driver
revisions 4.02 and older under Windows NT.

 5. If a RAID0 LDU is present on a physical drive group along with other
redundant RAID sets, automatic rebuilds will not function.

 6. The 4MB and 8MB EDRAM SIMS are only supported on the KZPAC options.
DO NOT use these SIMS on KZPSC or KZESC options.

 7. 2.0 meter 16-bit SCSI Cable (DEC part number BN31S-02) is required
    on AlphaServer 4000/4100 platforms.
