I have a couple of questions surrounding support ability around a AlphaServer 4000 pedestal configuration running UNIX (newly ordered system). 1) Is a TLZ09-DC (table top version with HD68 transition cable) supported? 2) Any issues (other than SCSI bus length) if the TLZ09-DC is connected to the KZPDA-AA. (Note: all disk drives including the system disk will be connected to a KZPSC-BA, and aware of potential FIS disk problem where system disk is within the KZPSC's RAID domain). Thanks in advance, Chris Demos (DTN 227-3777 ext #3558)

In general, if the StorageWorks version of a tape drive is supported, the tabletop version will work. It was a program decision to de-emphasize the tabletop versions, everything fits nicely into the SW shelves in the racks. I have a few tabletop versions on the supported options list. Most of them are there because of specific large bids that required a particular version to be supported. We just don't have the time or resources to requalify every tape physical format. The reason we don't just put them all on the list is there may be a case where the cable length required could violate the SCSI spec. It will most likely work. Insert appropriate disclaimer here. As far as KZPDA is concerned, the biggest restriction is that only one is supported per PCI segment (2 max per system). Todd |
