I got the following message when I upgraded with firmware CD 3.8:
UPD> update alphabios
WARNING: updates may take several minutes to complete for each device.
Confirm update on: AlphaBIOS [Y/(N)] y
DO NOT ABORT!
AlphaBIOS Updating to V5.24-0... .......WARNING! flash0:190000 has been
corrupted
FAILED.
AlphaBIOS verifies OK, however:
UPD> verify
AlphaBIOS Verifying V5.24-0... PASSED.
pfi0 Verifying 2.46... PASSED.
pfi1 Verifying 2.46... PASSED.
srmflash Verifying V3.0-10... PASSED.
The SRM updated OK, and since I use Unix, this is not a big deal, until
I want to do maintenance on my KZPSC RAID array, because...
The "alpabios" command fails with:
P00>>>alphabios
loading AlphaBIOS firmware
AlphaBIOS Image checksum error, actual 037e9e79, computed 92c9cb6dh
As you can imagine, I find this quite disturbing, especially since the
"verify"
passes. Before I call field service, could someone tell me what's going on,
and what the likely dead part is?
This machine has 4 processors, so at a minimum, this has got me wondering just
where the flash is located - given that I only install firmware once, unlike
on
an 8400, where each processor module has to be upgraded.
Thanks,
Glenn Trewitt

The flash is on the PCI motherboard (saddle module).

| The LFU verify command only verifies the checksum of the loaded image.
It's a might bit confusing, but the programming that happens during the
update command, verifies the loaded image (in memory) and the blasted
image that just got blasted. It told you there was corruption. The
VERIFY command simply checks the in-memory copy (loaded from the load
device, e.g. CD/ROM) and checks its checksum..
You presumably have a bad flash ROM (FEROM1), which as .1 points out,
sits on the PCI motherboard (aka Saddle).
