438.0. "KZPAA TKZ62 Slows System Response" by FIXSR2::RUGGIERO (Mike Ruggiero) Mon Jan 27 1997 16:25

The customer added the following option to his 4100:

    KZPAA----Empty BA356 in the CPU CAB with a DWZZB Rev B1 ----TKZ62.
The DWZZB was installed to avoid any cable length issues. The cable
from the DWZZB to the TKZ62 is 3 Meters.

The PCI BUS has 5 KZPAA, a Dual FDDI controller, Thomas Conrad Token
Ring Card and a VGA interface.

He is running DIGITAL UNIX Ver 3.2G. When he does a backup to this
tape the system response get very sluggish. There are no errors in
DECEVENT that point any error conditions.

The customer had a Alpha 2100 that used a single ended SCSI controller
to a single ended TKZ62 running DIGITAL UNIX ver 3.2G and he did
    not see any response problem.

Is this configuration violating any hardware restrictions?
Are there any parameters or software changes needed?

The KZPAA is a single-ended device. It is not compatible with the
    DWZZB.

Those KZPAAs require a lot of CPU-based hand-holding. Replace
	them with KZPSAs.
