434.0. "Proteon p1990 plus card on AS4100 on UNIX 3.2g" by ZPOVC::SOONHENG () Mon Jan 27 1997 07:51
Hi all,
I seen a lot of topics discussing the proteon Token Ring card on
Windows NT 3.51 and 4.0.
I currently have a problem installing the proteon Token Ring card
p1990 plus on the Alphaserver 4100 that is running D-Unix 3.2g.
first, I boot the system to firmware console prompt without the
card to confirm that the system is working. Second, I add the
card in one of the EISA slot and boot it to firmware console
prompt. However, the system hang and the error message is :
"CPU 0 TOY". Checking the manual indicate the TOY means real
time clock problem. Removing the card and booting it back to
firmware console prompt result no error.
From here, I conclude there is a problem in the proteon card.
Could anyone advise do they have this problem before ?
Thank you.
soon Heng

| Did you run the ECU?

434.2 | I cannot get to firmware console prompt | ZPOVC::SOONHENG | | Mon Jan 27 1997 19:34 | 7 |
| Hi, thank you for your prompt reply.
I have to get to firmware console prompt before I can run ECU.
However, I could not even go to that stage. The system just hang
and the LCD display "CPU 0 TOY".

| I would recommend trying another card. It may be broken. We have seen
faulty devices bring down the whole (or parts of the) junk I/O bus.
This may be what you're running into.
