422.3Where can we get LFU?BRAT::HOULE_DWed Jan 29 1997 11:5410
How does one obtain the LFU which was NOT included with our hardware
internally in order to perform these AlphaBios upgrades?

Implementing SEVERAL 4000's for an internal program and we need the
    exe's for LFU some how.

    Thanks,

    Donna

The FW Update CD is not shipped with the system; I believe this is true
for all AlphaServer platforms. Instead, the CD is shipped with the O/S
kit in the case of UNIX/VMS. Am not sure of the process for NT-based
    systems.

I's also available on the Internet. For instance, at:

       http://ftp.digital.com/pub/Digital/Alpha/firmware/v3.7/as4x00

In the case of V3.7 CD firmware for the AlphaServer 4100/4000.

Jim is correct that LFU is built into the 4100/4000 console. However,
you still need the data files (i.e. the file you'll be updating with
such as the new AlphaBIOS firmware).

If you have MOP-load capability at your site(s) there are network-
available copies of LFU + data files that you can copy to your MOP
server's MOPload area. Otherwise, you'll need to either find a CD from
your O/S kit, order the CD internally (e.g. part number QZ-003AA-F8.3.7
for V3.7 CD), order it externally (e.g. QZ-003AA-E8.3.7), sign on for
the quarterly FW CD update service (QY-003AA-A8), use the Web pages and
follow the instructions (FW/LFU release notes pointed to via Web pages)
for downloading and using a MOP-loadable version if network-capable, or
use the Web pages to create an LFU floppy diskette, etc.

DECwest maintains a separate Web site for their AlphaBIOS console. [Not
sure why they don't use the same site, but they don't..] I believe it
is pointed to in the aforementioned LFU Web pages. Interim releases of
AlphaBIOS, if any, are posted to their site. By interim, I am referring
to releases issued after a given FW Update CD is posted. Most of the
time, the latest AlphaBIOS (and SRM) are posted on the Web pages.

    If questions, let me know.
