414.2 | Better than 640x480 with VMS 6.2-1H3, #9 Vision 330 and Motif 1.2-3??? | BBPBV1::WALLACE | john wallace @ bbp. +44 860 675093 | Wed Feb 19 1997 13:08 | 21 |
| One of my customers has got a Friday 13th 4100. Actually, it may be the
customer who has the Friday 13th effect because it's not just the 4100.
Anyway, today's query:
4100, VMS 6.2-1H3, Motif 1.2-3 off CD, #9 Imagine 330 graphics.
Want better than 640x480, primarily for Bookreader, so follow
instructions on page 2-8->2.10 of the graphics card manual (note they
mention 6.2-1h1 and 1h2 but not 1h3).
Instructions are executed (as evidenced by existence of
decw$server_refresh_rate logical) but DECwindows is still 640 by 480 at
a low refresh rate.
All input gratefully received. (e.g. what's ECO7 fix, as per .0? comet
and notes altavista didn't find anything helpful, or I picked unhelpful
keywords)

414.3 | Did you ever get this to work? | WONDER::CARLSON | Dave | Mon Mar 03 1997 14:06 | 19 |
| Sorry I've been tardy in replying to this..
Do you still have a problem?
Are you sure the commands modifying the pixel settings are being
executed? I believe the instructions create a custom .com procedure
but I believe you need to ensure it's in the correct directory.
I'll need to check on this a bit more myself.
Execute the commands individually and then do
@sys$startup:decw$startup restart
It will advise that you are aborting..
Initially I was sort of hoping Vince H from the DECwindows group would
respond, but I understand he is doing something else now.

414.4 | Still stuck at 640x480x60Hz. | BBPBV1::WALLACE | john wallace @ bbp. +44 860 675093 | Mon Mar 03 1997 16:22 | 22 |
| Hi Dave,
Nope, sorry, no progress on .2. I've been away a while till today and
was about to seek more help...
I'm fairly convinced the .com file has been edited correctly and gets
executed correctly (the server_refresh_rate logical gets created,
anyway). I even hacked around the .com files to set verify on just to
make sure (then restored the originals, of course).
The way the server is configured/installed, @decw$startup restart is
rejected, system has to be rebooted (this was expected behaviour for
me).
I've even checked the www.service.digital.com stuff for patches, but
the only one which mentions S3 and Motif claims to apply to 6.2 and
6.2-1H1.
Suggestions welcome.
regards
john
