394.11 | WNT 4,0 Progress Indicator | POBOXB::GENT | | Fri Jan 31 1997 09:44 | 20 |
| Hello All,
*** Please use this with caution because we have not finished full
*** qualification.
NT4.0 with SP2 and a patch has achieved successful overnight runs on
the 8400 and 4100 machines. The new kernel is being tested on the
original TPC/C work load that showed the original problem and
preliminary results look good.
Assuming that the TPC/C runs complete satisfactorily, expect a hot fix
to be posted the first week in February.
I will send out a BLITZ message and add a reply to this note when I
know the final results and have the pointer to the hot fix.
Thank you all for your patience - I am very appreciative of your
handling of this problem.
Very best regards - ted

394.13 | soon... | MOVMON::DAVIS | | Fri Feb 14 1997 09:34 | 5 |
| I believe the goal was 21-FEB release, may be delayed a week or two
because Microsoft needs to do some additional testing. We'll post as
soon as it's available.

BLITZ TITLE: Alpha Server 2000/4000 Families - Windows NT 4.0
DATE: February 17, 1997
AUTHOR:Ted Gent TD #:

Subject : AlphaServer 2000/4000 Family Products, Windows NT 4.0
Affected System: Alpha Server 2000/4000 running Windows NT 4.0
There is a bug in Windows NT 4.0, Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 1 and
Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 2 on multiprocessor Alpha systems, e.g.
AlphaServers 2000, 2100, 2100A, 4000 and 4100. This bug causes memory
pool corruption that causes the system to crash, typically with a "System
Service Exception" bug check.
This problem will be resolved in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 3. As an
interim solution, customers may upgrade their Windows NT 4.0
multiplrocessor AlphaServers to Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 2, and apply
the "hot fix" (QFE) available from Microsoft via anonymous FTP from
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com
/bussys/winnt/winnt-public/fixes/usa/nt40/hotfixes-postSP2/Alpha-fix/
>> Please note that I split the path name to make it fit 80 columns <<

The README.1ST file is appended to the end of this blitz.
AlphaServer 4100 and the HCL
----------------------------
Please note that the availability of the QFE does NOT mean that the
Alphaserver 4100 is on the Microsoft Hardware Compatibility List. It does
mean that the QFE will now allow the 4100 to run the Hardware
Compatibility Tests. It is estimated to take two more weeks before the
4100 is listed on the HCL.

394.18 | when to use the fix? | WKOL10::WALLACE | David Wallace, SBU Sales, @WKO | Tue Feb 18 1997 09:25 | 10 |
| Re. .16,
The Blitz indicates that this patch is only to be applied to MP
systems. Is it advisable to also apply it to single CPU systems, or is
it okay to install NT 4.0 SP2 on a single CPU system and then wait
until SP3 comes out to update the system?
Regards,
David.

394.19 | More of the same | CHOWDA::GLICKMAN | writing from Newport,RI | Wed Feb 26 1997 13:16 | 6 |
| My customer just got a 4100 with Windows NT 3.51. It's a single CPU
system. I would also like a reply to .18 in regards to what path
to take to get to 4.0. I also would like to know how the customer
gets 4.0.
Appreciating any responses.

394.20 | gotta buy 4.0 | MOVMON::DAVIS | | Wed Feb 26 1997 17:36 | 7 |
| I think you can get a 4.0 disk from Digital. I know you can get it
from Microsoft. The hot fix is on the web, which will be in service
pack 3, which will also be on the web.
Maybe someone more familiar with the NT upgrade process can add more.
