124.0. "System stress test sw?" by AOSG::MONTAGUE () Tue Feb 18 1997 09:28

Does anyone have any recommendations for a stress test type diagnostic?

I have an intel box that has been intermittent. What I would like to do
is run some type of load/stress test on the beast to try and make it fail
consistently. I don't have a mouse mover or a keyboard typer so I would
be forgoing the mechanical interaction tests.

In order of preference
 sdk?
 freeware
 internal tool
 shareware
 commercial

Any thoughts?

Not sure what kind of system stress you want to have, but the NT 4.0 Resource
kit has a number of tools to stress the system. There is an app. to do
memory stressing, CPU hogging (multithreaded), and I believe one that does
file I/O to the disk.

That's the style I want to run. I think I've got an intermittent sim.
But I can't seem to make it fail enough to prove it. This machine has
had it's share of problems
 failed motherboard
 failed rz26
 suspect memory?

If I can find a "stess test" that makes it fail fast enough then I can
trouble shoot the hardware to the FRU that's driving the support team
and F/S up the wall.

Thanks,
