218.0. "HTTP daemon did not start ... why ?" by BACHUS::ROELANDTS (Wa d'es ma da ve ne stuut) Tue Jun 03 1997 03:06
   Hello,
Can anyone tell me what the meaning is of the following message ? We run in
fact the IAS V3.1.1. and after the last reboot the Web server wasn't
accessible anymore. I tried to restart it but got the next message :
# ./S56httpd80 start
Netscape HTTP daemon starting at port 80
conf_init: line 17: can't open logfile must cycle logfile
/usr/internet/ns-home/https-IAS-Public/logs/access before changing format
(libsec code -8187)
Netscape HTTP daemon couldn't be started
at port 80
After that I created a 0 bytes access file again, the HTTP daemon could be
   started again.
# ./S56httpd80 stop
# ./S56httpd80 start
Netscape HTTP daemon starting at port 80
warning: daemon is running as super-user
startup: listening to port 80 as root
Netscape HTTP daemon started at port 80
#
I still have the old access file but don't see anything 'special' in it.
   Regards,
        Guy
