217.0. "Virtual Servers?" by EEMELI::AITTALA () Fri May 16 1997 08:23

	Hi

I'm building up Internet Alpha Server where resides our
	customers Web HTTP pages.
I have istalled into Digital Unix v.4.0B Netscape Enterprise
Server software v.2.0. This kit is not from IAS. Installation
went ok. Now I have a need to make virtul servers.
One possibility is to build Hardware Virtual Server, where
every server needs its own alias IP.
If I click from Netscape Server Manager Content Mgmt button,
this brings a new menu on a left side screen. On that menu
there should be an option "Hardware Virtual Server". In my
case there isn't. I have a book Netscape Enterprise Server
written by Allen L. Wyatt, where this option is valid. The
book handles Enterprise 2.0 and WinNT. I think that both
NT and Unix versions should be same.
Is there any other way to do Hardware Virtual Servers?
On Netscape Administrator main menu there is an option
Install a new Enterprise Server. This way brings a new
Server, but is it a Virtual Server? And it brings some
extra processes under Unix. Now I think in future there
	will be too much processes.
Has Apache server Hardware Virtual Server feature?

Do you have the Software Virtual Server? This one works with both an
alias IP Address and a CNAME DNS entry. CNAMES are prefured as they
don't use an extra IP Address but sometimes busnesses absolutly don't
want their (potential) customers to know who is WEB Hosting for them.

I did this on the Enterprise V2.01 server and it worked.

    Hi

I asked for Hardware Virtul Server from Netscape's support center.
They said it is supported in future v.3.X.
