219.0. "internal SCSI cable for 7-slot Backplane/encl.???" by SAYER::ELMORE (Steve [email protected] 4123645893) Wed Apr 30 1997 23:21

    My apologies if answered already, but I couldn't find it...

    Is there an internal cable part (perhaps part of the cable kit ETMXK-AA
    already) that goes from the "Atacama" (ETMXB-AA) 7-slot backplane
    50-pin shrouded header (J1020) to the rear bezel/breakout slots of the
    "Suckle" (ETMXE) enclosure?

    This is to attach external SCSI devices.

    If an additional cable/part is needed, can someone post the customer
    part number?

    Thanks,
    Steve

219.1Nope, call JAMECO...COPS01::SEGRESTMid-Atlantic TOEM Field Application EngineerThu May 01 1997 14:2811
    There is no Digital part that I am aware of... If anyone else knows of
    one I would like to hear about it as well.

    JAMECO electronics sells a SCSI Ribbon to SCSI-II Back Panel Port
    Adapter (part# 125241) for $14.95. Usint this you will need a short
    SCSI ribbon cable to connect to the DMCC berg connector. A JAMECO
    SCSI cable (part# 72848, 18" long) is also available for $3.95. Yopu
    can place an order with JAMECO by phone at 1-800-831-4242 or via the
    web at http://www.jameco.com

    Personnaly I use the SCSI harness from the older VAX stations
    3100. They have 4 50 pin berg (RZ2x type) to an external 50 pin
    centronics type. It has a metal faceplate, but it does require
    some work to "fit" inside an encosure. ie: Cut a metal hole
    to fit, or perhaps make it fit on a empty PC slot back cover.

    17-02297-01 is the logistic part number, but there are other
    as well. Bob's previous answer would probably be cleaner.

219.3An ECO on-the-waySYOMV::NEWTONFri May 09 1997 00:4224
    There is an ECO to the ETM10-AD that should now be shipping. I believe
    it consists of a SCSI cable that connects (on one end) to the internal
    SCSI ribbon cable (supplied with the cable kit) and has a metal
    faceplate (on the other end).

    SCSI Cable Assembly: 17-04516-01
    SCSI Terminator:	 12-44025-01

    I have (in the meantime) successfully done the same thing with the
    cable from an old DECstation 3000(?). It's part # is 17-04124-01 Rev
    A01.  It's Amphenol part # is 36-24502-09-B01.

    Harold Hager says the ECO is now available, but CSS has been unable to
    get the parts yet from Ayr, so I've had them order quantity-3 of the
    old cable.

    I don't know of any cable that goes directly from the backplane to the
    bulkhead. And of course if you do that, internal SCSI devices are not
    an option.

    Hope this helps!

    Regards,
    Mark

Were these the cables used for the old SCSI-1 range of workstation disks at
5Mb/sec?

219.5I do not think so.MQOOA::LEDOUXVincent [email protected]Tue May 13 1997 13:3013
    re: -.1

    I do not think so, RZ26 were used on these systems.

    I am using these with a wide drive (although my controler
    is narrow) at 10 MB/sec without any problem. My SCSI
    bus holds 5 drives, one CD and one external TK tape drive.
    It starts with the standard 50 pins flat SCSI, then
    to the cable mentionned. Also I have an active adapter
    from wide to narrow for the wide drive. Never had a
    soft error...

219.6will all ETM10-ADs ship with this?NBOWJB::blundellBill BlundellFri Jun 06 1997 12:5716

Does that mean that all ETM10-ADs will come with cabling to bring a 50
way SCSI connector to the backpanel ? Thus obviating the need for special
orders as previously described?
