176.0. "Dark Color Enclosure ???" by DEKVC::JONGHUNJUNG () Tue Feb 25 1997 08:55

Is dark color option is possible with DMCC enclosure ? A customer now
using IBM industrial PC is evaluating our DMCC but thinks our enclosure
color looks too light like OA use comapring with IBM and other vendor
(ex. XIRCOM)'s dark blue and black colors. Is it possible to have a
dark color option with some engineering cost adding ?

    1) which of the DMCC enclosures is involved?
    	7 slot
    	14 slot
(soon to be shipping: ) 19 slot?

    2) In any case it is not easy to change the
color. Such a request would need to have some level of comittment ot
volumes, and/or payment of one time charges.

(Its not as simple as changing the paint. There are switches, and
    molded plastic Bezels. and etc...)

    	thanks

    Answer : 14 slot P/N ETM31-BD.

Answer : The expected q'ty is about 400 units for next 2 years.
Would you give the engineering cost for the color change ?
Then I have to discuss with our OEM reseller about the cost
treatment. Due to price competition with other competitors,
we can't raise price to customer for the color change. So I
and our reseller has to decide go or no-go based on the amount
because no way but reseller has to pre-pay the engineering cost
within expected margin from this deal.

In reality, even written commitment of q'ty purchase by customer
can not secure the future purchase in this rapidly changing
common platform market. So, my opinion is what about changing
base color of our DMCC enclosures to dark color like other
vendors ? Dark color is more common than light color in
industrial use. Customer say our current Alpha station
and server's color( dark blue) looks strong and robust.

Requests fopr changes to product specifications (eg color) etc should
be sent to the product manager for consideration by the plan of record
    comittee.

Field offices can arrange repaint locally for limited number of units.

    thanks

When a request comes in for a new color it would be very helpful if
    the color could be specified.

The manufacturer of the 15 slot enclosure does have the plastic bezel
and grills molded in black. I am sure they could be purchased
    separetly.

Also, as stated in the previous reply, 176.3, would be the correct
    procedure.

Different enclosures and colours are always possible. The volume
would determine the correct channel. If this is a high volume
opportunity, I would recommend speaking with the product manager
(Harold Hager).

If the volume is relatively low, you should look at a partner (CSS
or external) to provide the enclosure.
