Short Version: ALL ETMXB-BB built to date have the wrong value of resistor in the ID SEL lines. No known problems on EBM43/4, EBM3x-PA will randomly fail to configure devices on the PCI bus. ========================================================================== DIGITAL INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM To: Distribution Date: 10-Feb-1997 From: Harold A. Hager Jr. DEPT: OEM Business Group, DMCC Product Manager Phone:dtn 237-3034 Mail: SHR3-1/D20 ENET: SHRCTR::HAGER Subject: Kalahari (ETMXB-BB/ETM33-**) Problem Summary of Kalahari Revenue etch, Revision C02, issue ----------------------------------------------------- The Kalahari backplanes have been built with the incorrect value of the Idsel resistor for the PCI slots. The IDselect line is used to configure all PCI options and is critical to the PCI bus operation. The value of the resistor on the boards marked as revision C02 is a 1k resistor. The correct value is 56 ohms. The resistor value being incorrect will affect operation with the EBM3x-PA board significantly. PCI devices in the primary BUS may randomly fail to configure or never configure correctly. Bridges may also randomly fail to configure correctly, this would have the effect of the PCI devices beyond the bridge not operating correctly. The issue has not been known to effect K2 (EBM4*-**) significantly. Recommended Corrective Action ----------------------------- 1. All customers/sales reps/FAEs who have been involved in the purchase and delivery of the following parts need to be notified: ETMXB-BB ETM33-** 2. If these customers intend to purchase or have already purchased any of the following parts for use with the backplane (ETMXB-BB) and/or kernel (ETM33-**), then they must have the backplane replaced: EBM34/36/37-PA 3. All remaining inventory within Digital is to be reworked. All existing orders will have the re-work completed by 11-Feb-97 so that no delays will be seen. In addition, Manufacturing has indicated that all remaining material in Ayr will have the re-work completed by 14-Feb-97. Rework instructions for Kalahari C02 Backplane. ----------------------------------------------- We are allowing the areas to determine if they wish to have the re-work performed locally. A preliminary list of instructions for re-work are attached for your information. A diagram providing a map for the location of the resistors is being prepared as well. We will make sure this map is made available when ready. We request that you work with Ayr Manufacturing (Gordon Mongtomerie) to ensure that the proper labeling is applied so that the source of the re-work can be identified if the boards are ever returned. Remove Resistors R7, R8, R9, R10, R14, R25, R28, R30, R37, R41, R42, R49, R50, R52 Replace the above resistors with the following component -- 0805 56.3 Ohm resistor, Digital Part Number 12-35791-73.
