165.0. "duff resets on K2 ?" by OSITEL::BRITTAIN (Peter, TOEM support Munich @RTO 865-3102) Mon Feb 03 1997 16:27

        Hi,

I'd just like to check with the MODULAR community: I've seen
one or two K2s where the reset refused to work - even if
"shorted" at the reset pins on the SBC. I thought it was just
an isolated case - but I keep getting reports of other boards
out there in the field. Too many, in fact...

Has anyone else had this problem frequently ?

Thanks for the reminder, which I have passed on.

It has worked in one case at least so far reported. Perhaps there are a lot
of boards out there with J2:p2-p4 erroneously set?

Page 3-38 of the K2 User information manual (May 1996) states that the factory
setting for J2 is dependent on the operating system but gives no further details
and shows only *one* default position in the illustration.

I presume the illustration refers to WNT as the Operating System
(WNT *and* UNIX action = reset, (not halt)). What are the defaults for the
other OSs ?

Thanks again

UNIX and OpenVMS can be HALTed if you have the jumper setup for the
    HALT position.

    Windows NT only allows RESET.

Most of the systems which are shipped are jumpered to be RESET.

You are NOT supposed to touch the reset button in UNIX or OpenVMS
unless you really want to reset the system.

I do not believe that officially ">>>CONTINUE" is supported. If
wired for HALT, you can use the button to reach ">>>" prompt and isse
    "CRASH" command.

If the jumper is in HALT position and the button does nothing after
apparent system hang, it is looping in the PALcode. This could be a
bug depending upon the conditions which cause it.

ALSO, THE RESET BUTTON HAS TO HAVE THE CORRECT POLARITY.
