161.0. "SCSI pb on shark/atacama" by ANNECY::quasar.aeo.dec.com::level_c (WhyTheWing ?) Wed Jan 29 1997 17:00

Hi,

	I have problem getting a SCSI disk to boot on a shark/atacama system.

	I managed to install NT files on the RZ26L-E but after that it never boots.

	I can see the disk if I boot DOS from a floppy, it is the ACTIVE partition etc...

	The configuration is the following:

		- shark/atacama system
		- BIOS 2.64
		- 64 Mb RAM
		- no IDE drive (J11 off and IDE disabled in BIOS)
		- one SCSI disk (RZ26L-E) 1GB

	I don't see what's the problem !

	Can anybody help me ?

	Cheers,

Christophe.

Christophe,

Is the scsi ID of the disk set to '0', if not set it to 0.
Also check to see if it has a spin-up jumper, if so is it on.

161.2Disk OK !ANNECY::quasar.aeo.dec.com::level_cWhyTheWing ?Thu Jan 30 1997 14:1016
Hi,

	The disk is OK,

	I have tried with an IDE drive and I get the same result !

	I get the blinking cursor on the upper left corner and ... nothing more !

	I don't see where I've made a mistake.

	Any idea ?

	Thanks,

Christophe.

161.4How did you get here ?BBPBV1::WALLACEjohn wallace @ bbp. +44 860 675093Thu Jan 30 1997 19:267
    What do you mean by "managed to install NT files" ? Was this a standard
    NT installation from CD, or some other process ?

    ps
    why would the SCSI ID need to be 0 ?
161.5It works !ANNECY::quasar.aeo.dec.com::level_cWhyTheWing ?Fri Jan 31 1997 08:1810
Ouf !

	I have the solution (or almost the beginning of one), after many tries
	I issued a FDISK /MBR and the IDE disk finaly boot.

	I'll give a try at the SCSI configuration and I'll tell you.

	Cheers,

Christophe.
