Does anyone know the current status of multihead?

I need 2/3/4 head, WNT V4.0 and Intel DMCC.

Take a look at Twin Orion from Datapath. I have copied the .pdf

    Further to Steve's note in .7: re NT4/Alpha/multiMillenium - I spoke to
the relevant product manager (Al Hopkins) a few days ago. The drivers
exist but cannot yet be shipped, 'cos the legal stuff isn't sorted
(sound familiar?). If you'd like a look at what we've got, see

98.134 Matrox in the Intel SystemZUR01::MISCHLERChristian Mischler - Switzerland 760-2706Thu Mar 27 1997 11:497
I "tested" 4 Matrox Millenium Cards in a Prolog DMCC System.
I couldn't find any problems.

The customer (ABB) did more extensive testing with 2 Matrox Millenium
in the Intel (Prolog) Box with no problems.

98.14Great! What about qualifications?RLTIME::COOKThu Mar 27 1997 13:577
Thanks. I've passed that on to the sales rep. What do I need to do to get
four milleniums qualified on the prolog boards?

98.15another Multiscreen opportunitySAYER::ELMORESteve [email protected] 4123645893Fri Apr 18 1997 22:0659
Another opportunity for multiscreen/multihead, eventually up to 6-screens.
The shorter term need is for:

	87 3-head
	19 2-head
	26 singles

WNT or preferably UNIX
~$6K cost goal but will pay slightly more for UNIX

I've looked at: http://www.rto.dec.com/TOEM/DMCC/MultiheadConfiguration/

Here are the parts:

quantity 1-6, 3D30 graphic adapters - PBXGB-AA $3195.90 ($795ea.)
K2 Alpha DMCC SBC UNIX 1-2 lic - EBM43-AZ $3495
14-slot (10pci,3isa) backplane - ETMXB-BB $ 695
64MB mem (might consider 128MB=2 EBMXM-FB) - EBMXM-FB $1095
512KB Cache (vs.2MB=EBMXC-DB) - EBMXC-BA $ 195
keyboard - LK471-AA $ 50.25
mouse - PBXWS-AA $ 40.20
desktop enclosure (vs. tower or rackmount) - ETMXE-CD $1395
PCI Ethernet - DE450-CA $ 114.48
PCI SCSI - KZPAA-AA $ 198
1.2GB SCSI disk - PBXRZ-EB $ 432.15
                                                        ---------
                                              Total $ 10,905.98

I must get the price down.

I have several questions:

1) I've configured this with a different backplane than the one illustrated
by Norbert Gross/Detlef Schmier web page. Is that OK?

2) Is there a way to cut the cost down any? Only low-end graphics are
needed. Is there a lower end graphic adapter that has been tested on
DMCC/multiscreen?

3) This is only a display device -- an X-server. All data is sent across
the network to be displayed here. Can I get by with 64MB mem and six
screens? Is 512KB cache sufficient?

4) I suppose I can quote a WNT/Intel configuration. We could quote
Pathworks 32 which is now packaged with Excursion. In another note, it was
suggested 4 Matrox cards were tested. Was that for WNT/Intel? Can more
than 4 screens be supported? Is there a WNT limit? Has Alpha/WNT plus
multiple Matrox been tested? What is the screen resolution for Matrox? Are
there any "gotcha's" or tricks or special drivers for getting it to work?

5) Datapath, Colorgraphic, and STB Systems all advertise multiscreen,
single PCI, WNT, adapters. Has anyone used pairs of these?

6) I know some testing/qualification is going on in Ayr. Is any of this on
the list?

Thanks,
Steve

> You forgot the floppy and the CD :-(

Actually I didn't! I just didn't list them here, nor the power cable.

This customer can probably get by without floppy or internal CD. They can
load the OS once from an external CDrom, then move the external to another
machine and repeat. Once loaded, they won't be changed for years!

But, thanks for noticing. The rest of my note from which I extracted into
this conference read:

--------------------------------------------
If they need a floppy, add PBXRX-AA
If they need internal CDrom, add PBXRD-CA

However, if the CDrom is needed only for OS and SW load. They can probably
just move this from system to system. For a tabletop SCSI CDROM for sw
distribution/load:

DS-RRD46-VA 12X cdrom
BA364-AA enclosure (wide; 68pin HD connector)
BN31V SCSI cable
