860.0. "Special Request for Prayer & Contact Names" by CPCOD::JOHNSON (A rare blue and gold afternoon) Tue Feb 06 1996 11:07

   I am looking for help with a very specific situation.  A friend of 
   ours, David, has a friend, Catherine,  who lived in Israel for the
   past 4 years. Catherine worked for a group called CFI - Christian 
   Friends of Israel. Catherine loved living in Israel and wanted to 
   stay, but could not get an extension on her visa.  So she ended up 
   returning to the States. She arrived a week ago yesterday, virtually 
   penniless, no job, and no place to stay. 

   We've taken her in, but Catherine is anxious to have a life of her own 
   again.  She needs a job and transportation most of all. We live out in 
   the country without public transportation access and we both work so she 
   is pretty much stuck in our house alone most of the time.  She wants to 
   work for a Christian organization so that limits things a bit also. 
   Catherine has a couple of contacts, one with a branch of CFI here in the 
   States, to whom she is making inquiries, but if anyone knows of any 
   Christian organizations that might need someone for general administrative 
   work, please let me know. In a "previous life" she worked as social worker,
   but I don't think she wants to return to that. She has done some book
   keeping and has a little familiarity with computers from a non-technical
   point of view - ie has used WP applications, spreadsheets, etc.

   Also, it would probably be better for Catherine to be in a more city sort 
   of environment with public transportation so she is not so cut off by not 
   having a car, and is not as dependent on other people for everything. There
   is nothing within walking distance of our house here southern New Hampshire
   except other houses. We have a couple of friends who can help out a little 
   with giving her rides, but I think  Catherine is little uncomfortable 
   always being dependent. 

   Finding a living situation is complicated by the lack of funds and job, and
   she also has a dog who has been her companion for the past 11 years.  Her 
   dog is very well behaved, but is not happy having other dogs around, and we
   have other dogs, one of whom is a very lively, just turned 1 year old, 63 lb 
   youngster whose energy and inquisitiveness keep us on our toes, and the
   other dogs in disgust with her.  Again, your prayers on Catherine's behalf 
   for finding a more permanent living situation that would be better for 
   her and her dog are appreciated.

    	Maybe she can do something with both fields combined. Like work as
    a Christian support person with Social Work in Nursing Homes? A lot of
    the eldery need someone around to pray with them. My dad id a pastor of
    a church and is in Social Work. He visits many elderly people he meets
    and prays with them. Although he's not getting paid for that part(in
    money anyways)......There must be something out there!!!

Thanks for your support Katy & R_Nichols (or was that Nickels, sorry if I've
mis-remembered & spelled your last name wrong.  We have a few contacts that
she is trying, and a few more places to look (the internet being one), the
secretary of our old church, the pastor of our old, old church being others,
plus people we've already contacted. However, if anyone knows of a church 
looking for a secretary, or a similar type job in a Christian association or 
ministry, please do let me know. Prayers appreciated.

   Catherine suddenly decided to return to Israel so the request in 
   860.0 no longer stands. Apparently she had a return ticket & decided
   she would use it & hope & pray for the best because she really didn't
   see why she should work so hard to stay in a place she didn't want to
   be (the U.S.A.). I have no idea whether or not she will actually be
   allowed in to Israel as the visa issue has not changed. She left last 
   night.  My feeling is that she is an individual with unhealed hurts and
   is a bit mixed-up, so I ask now prayers for God to protect and guide her,
   and help her grow in maturity and clear-sightedness.
