854.0. "church seeking" by FABSIX::T_TEAHAN () Sat Jan 20 1996 02:37

    Hi,

Can you help me? I have been born again about 7 years now and i
continue to look for a church/denomination that lines up, as close as
    possible, to what i believe.
Im in a assemblies of God church now, 4 years, they rely on an
outpouring of the holy spirit like the day of pentecost, they rely on
feelings, even when they say they dont. They rely on experiences and
when 1 doesnt take place, they can sometimes feel that the spirit needs
to be stirred up, and seek revival, which is great, revival, even more.
I believe that God poured out his spirit on the day of
pentecost, such as they do, but i differ in the sense that when that
happened and i received his spirit and was born again, that i got all
of his spirit, not half and thus do not have to wait for another
experience in that sense but pray, etc. and be empowered by the spirit
that already dwells in me, as whole, to have effect in
    ministry.
I realize that God touches me by the spirit, my emotions and
feelings, feelings and emotions and experiences are not bad, but
waiting for God to move when i feel in my spirit that he is waiting for
his people to be empowered and move, is another thing. Also i do
question tongues. Also i would consider myself evangelical and at times
charasmatic but again that charisma is based on experience and feelings
that i do not always posess in a charasmatic way but conservative at
times. Id say im border line fundamentalist/evangelical charasmatic, do
believe some gifts of the spirit but dont know what ones are
counterfeit, from others. Its tough finding a church that lines up to
what i maybe looking for, thats "no conflict"

    Hi Thomas,

It's Saturday and here I am at work waiting on co-worker to help train
on her new PC. Good questions! And from a seeking heart, no less!

    Thomas,

It has always been my impression that it is only through Pastoral
confidence that you can ever be happy at a church. People in the
church can fail you and cause discomfort, but you can usually get
through those failures. But when a Pastor fails you, usually folks
    move on.

It is my suggestion, dear Thomas, that you have a meeting with your
current pastor and talk about your unsettledness and ask for his
counsel, if you still believe this pastor is your pastor.

If you cannot speak with this pastor, then it is my suggestion that you
visit some churches and set up meetings with their pastor and discuss
your spiritual needs in a church.

No-one here can guide you to "a" church that will satisfy all your
needs, until you've defined all your needs and then interviewed
pastor's at church's you find desirable, but not convinced.

Seek inside of you for what you need, the go out and find.

Where do you live? If you live near one of us, we may have recommendations
of particular churches.

Paul asked the same question I was going to. Sometimes its not always a
question of which denomination, but which congregation.

    hi ,

i live in Malden, Ma, Paul, Leslie. Nancy thanks for your input. I,
now, have left my former church and now investigating other churches. I
have felt that my fOrmer Pastor had only his view of doctrine and that
it was the only view that counted. I love the man and know there is an
anointing upon him and God is using him, where he is at with what he
    knows. thomas

I am unfamiliar with the area right around Malden. I have just prayer for
God's wisdom for you as you look for a new church home.

(Message from my wife to Thomas...)

Hello, Thomas. Just this afternoon, I asked James if he had heard from
you recently, and he said you didn't have access to IRC at the
moment... Was wondering how you were going. You would probably like our
    church, except that it's a little too far away : ) I like Nancy's
suggestion - interviewing the pastors. I'm pretty sure Harry did that
when he was church-searching, as well as attending each church for at
least four weeks in a row, to get a decent feel for it. We'll pray that
you find a new church family.
