844.0. "Prayers for a big move" by DREUL1::rob (Rob Marshall - Customer Service Dresden) Tue Jan 09 1996 14:07

Hi,

I've gone back and forth on whether, or not, to enter this in here; es-
pecially since I have not been involved in CHRISTIAN for some time, and
some (a lot) of you may not even know who I am. But...

We (my family and I) relocated to Germany in Sep. 1986. Recently I had
some interviews in the States (ZK3 and TAY) that went real well. I am
hoping to hear soon that my relocation back to the States has been approved.
In particular, I'm hoping that the job in ZK3, in the UNIX Support Group,
will work out.

For those who know me, this may be a surprise. At least it was to me :-)
The whole thing came up "coincidentally", and had it not been a chance to
move back to New England, I probably would never have seriously considered
it. We like Germany, but I have been missing "home" a bit lately.

Whereas our moves in the past, particularly the move to Germany, had always
been something I felt God wanted me to do, and I therefore actively pursued
it, this time is different. In this case, the opportunity came out of the
blue, and things have (at least up 'til now) just fallen into place.

But, as with any major decision, you want to be sure that God is with you.
So, what I'm asking for is your prayers. For one, that we would know that
God is in this (Psalms 127:1), and two, that should the job work out, all
the other minor details (selling our house, finding a house, the move, the
kids schools, etc..."minor" was meant as a joke :-) would also fall into
place. Although, one might speculate that, if God *is* indeed "in this",
the "minor" details will be worked out by Him... :-) The voice of "faith"
smaller than a mustard seed speaking :-) :-)

Even though we were a bit surprised when this all started to work out, my
wife had received a prophecy (from someone recognized as a prophet...if
you don't believe in the office of Prophet, please take that discussion
elsewhere, thank-you :-) last summer about our moving back to the States.
We had not taken it seriously, though, for reasons too lengthy to go into
here.

Thanks for your prayers,

Rob

    Hi Rob,

I remember praying about your move to Germany. But for some reason,
I didn't realize you were a New Englander. Weren't you in Colorado
    before?

Mind if I mention this to my husband Greg who is no longer at DEC,
er Digital, & also Irena Pulkstenis?

Rob!

My, that's a mind-bender! I'll *really* kick myself for not getting to
Dresden last September if you've gone before I can get back! (end of June
is the current estimate). Not only that - I guess it would mean you
wouldn't be likely to get to Reading either!  No ... CAN'T be right ... ;-}

OK - will be praying, and see if [where] the LORD is building this house

.0 especially since I have not been involved in CHRISTIAN for some time,
.0 and some (a lot) of you may not even know who I am.
Just to clarify, I think folks ought to know that Rob served as moderator
of the CHRISTIAN conference (earlier - archived - versions, that is!) from
1987 to 1991 (was it, Rob?), while in Munich and Stuttgart.

				God bless, bro...

844.5Not a New Englander, but a wanna-be :-)DREUL1::robRob Marshall - Customer Service DresdenWed Jan 10 1996 14:3034
Hi,

Re .2 Leslie,

Yes, we moved from Colorado to Germany, but I was born in Cambridge, Mass. and
grew up in New Jersey, but spent summers in Maine. Most of my immediate family
now lives in Maine (Sebasco Estates, which is south of Bath on Cape Small, and
Topsham). I've basically been off "on my own" for over 20 years, and always
looked at New England as "home," even though I never really lived there. But,
it is the one other area, besides Germany, that I've "always" wanted to live
in. Does having been born in Cambridge make me a New Englander? :-)

Definitely say HI! to Greg and Irena. Anybody ever know what happened to
Charlie Johnson?

Re .4 Andrew,

Yeah, you may have missed the chance, although I do owe Nicolas a letter.

And, yes, I think you are right about my being a moderator back then. Seems
like ages ago. I think that SUOIS3::RMARSHALL shows up quite a bit in one of
the archived versions. Something to do with "goals, non-goals..." of the
CHRISTIAN conference :-)

There's no telling, though, when we would actually move. My understanding is
that they need people immediately, but with all the signatures that are needed
for an international relocation, it could take a while. Then we have to sell
our house here (might be a problem) before we can go anywhere, etc. (I thought
that Bob Palmer had gotten rid of matrix management, until I found out that
they need 13 signatures for an int'l relo :-)

Thanks for your prayers,

Rob

Well being born in Cambridge, MA & summering in Maine certainly gives you
New England roots Rob. 'Fraid I've lost track of Charlie.

Hi Leslie,

I also went to school in Rhode Island...I'll guess it won't take much 'til
I staht dropping my ahs all the time...and staht wearin' shots in the summa :-)

Of course, if you know any downeast humor...read this with a thick Maine
accent:

On how hard it is to become a Maine native...

A fellow, who moved to Maine as a young child once asked:

I moved here when I was a child, married, and raised my children here. Don't
you think that makes me a Maine native?

The answer:

Well sir, if your cat were to climb into the oven and have kittens, you
wouldn't call 'em muffins, would you? :-)

    Rob,

I'll be praying that the Lord's hand will be upon you and your family
for sure! (As a side note, my mom grew up in Bath and my parents still
try to spend the summers up theah.)

And yes, I think you qualify as a Mainer. When we would go up for the
summer from Charleston, SC, we would consider everyone else TOURISTS
and wish they would go home! :)

BTW, also very much believe in the office of the prophet.

Hi Faye,

My aunt just moved to Bath, and my brother works at BIW. Of course, it used
to be embarassing trying to hitch-hike to my mom's...just imagine a long haired
hippy on the side of the road with a sign that says: Bath, Me. :-) :-)

Thanks,

Rob

Just a quick update, because it's Friday evening...

I just got news that the application for the relocation has apparently been
approved. I still haven't gotten "official" word, yet, but I assume it's
forthcoming.

I want to thank everybody for their prayers thus far, and ask that you
continue to pray for the move (selling our home, finding a new one, kids
and school...etc).

Leslie, were you able to get a hold of Irena? I'd love to see her again.

Thanks again,

Rob

I just talked to her about half an hour ago actually, and mentioned the
possibility of your relocating here.

Hi,

a quick update. We just got back from our house-hunting trip, which was a
success. We found a house in Nashua right between exits 4 & 5 off Rte. 3.

I wanted to thank everybody who's been praying for us. Things have been going
so well it's scarey. There are still things that need to be taken care of, and
we have a lot to do to get ready for the movers who are coming on Monday (just
5 days away). So, if you remember us, please pray that we would get everything
sold, and given away that we are not taking. Also that the money from the sale
of our house here would be there in the next couple of weeks, and that every-
thing would go well for the closing.

Thanks again, and, for those in the Nashua area, see you soon.

Rob
