beautiful.

This was from the sermon:
Can you allow Him to love you that way? Or do you feel that there is
too much darkness in you for Him to accept you? But that is a lie. He
already sings to you whether you can accept it or not. Just let Him.
You are my precious child and I love you. Otherwise I wouldn't bother
to lead you through this.
And I pray that you ... grasp how wide and long and high and deep is
the love of Christ, and know this love that surpasses knowledge--that
you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
(Ephesians 3:17-19)

| Sometimes it is so hard for us to believe that God really loves us as fully
as he does. This story was told to me by a woman I know, who has had a
particularly hard time believing that God really loved her. This happened to
her personally.
She was in church during a normal Sunday service, and one of the choruses
that was being sung was "The greatest thing." For those who don't know it,
it is a very simple song, it just goes:
The greatest thing in all my life is knowing you.
The greatest thing in all my life is knowing you.
I want to know you more.
I want to know you more.
The greatest thing in all my life is knowing you.
Then it repeats with "Loving" and "Serving" instead of "Knowing."
Anyway, the song began, and she heard a beautiful, loud and clear male voice
singing the song *above* her. She looked up, and could not determine where
the sound was coming from. It wasn't coming from the choir loft, and it
wasn't coming from any sound system. And this wasn't just something normal -
she'd been in this church for years and never heard anything like it. It was
coming from directly above her, directed at her, and the sound of everyone
else singing just faded away by comparison. What was even stranger was that
no one else seemed to notice it. Then the Lord impressed on her that He was
singing the song to her.
Her first response was to argue and say "No, Lord." That the greatest thing
in the Lord's life would be to know her? To love her? And worst of all, to
serve her? She could barely deal with it. But the Lord didn't listen to her
arguments and kept singing, as she dissolved into tears as she realized the
depth of the Lord's love for her.
The church continued with another song after that one, and the voice was
gone. She could not figure out any possible natural source for the voice,
and no one around her had heard it at all, and wondered what she was crying
about.

| My pastor's testimony talks about struggling with this same concept of
God's love for us. When he was at his most desparate moment, the Holy
Spirit had him open his Bible to Isaiah 43:4 - the only verse in the
entire Bible where God says, "I love you."
43:4 Since you are precious in my sight, since you are honored and I
love you: I will give other men in your place and other peoples in
exchange for your life.
