733.0. "missionaries" by DECWET::MCCLAIN () Thu May 18 1995 19:16
I thought maybe we would start a conference discussing and making known
different missions, so that if anyone would care to help out with one,
the information would be accessible for them.
I have a good freind named Shannon that will be leaving for Papua New
Guinea here in a little over a month. She will be staying in a place
called Garoka.
When she arrives there, she will be experiencing cross culture
evangelism and it will be very trying for her. I can vouch for the fact
that big things like this take a lot of prayer, faith, sacrifice,
and dedication. I can vouch for it because our group of about eight
friends has sacrificed many a saturday doing car washes and praying
with her, as well as bible studies.
We are doing pretty good so far, we have been raising money for about
two months off and on when people have time, and we have managed to
raise a little over $1100. But the bad news is we have a lot of work
ahead of us. So I would like to ask you all now to keep us in your
prayers, Shannon is a wonderful freind to me, and I have been praying
too.
If you would like some additional information, would like to assist
financially, or would just like to have an address where you may send a
letter of encouragement, please send me e-mail at DECWET::MCCLAIN.
May God watch over all of you and bless you with all you say and do.
Thank you,
Joe McClain

| I have friends at our local Church who were missionaries in New Guinea for many
years. While their main job was educating the children of other missionaries,
they were activly involved in the Church there, and made many friends amound the
natives.
They tell many interesting storied about those years, and some of the cultural
problems they faced.
I'll ask them if they have any advise for missionaries going to New Guinea.
Peter.
