| My goals for this year:
Live in the present not in the past or the future. Take things for what
they are and not what they have or could be.
Have fun in everything I do and enjoy life. ie enjoy doing the ironing
and dont see it as a chore.
Continue to spend time with God and listen more carefully to him.

My main goal for the year is to see Phil 3:13,14 applied in my life. I spend
too much time looking at what is behind me, and not nearly enough time
on today..
To have my son Scott in Christian school next school year.
Be out of debt
excersize regularly
Lose about 35-40 lbs.
STOP PROCRASTINATING!

649.4 | 1995 Goals | KAHALA::JOHNSON_L | Leslie Ann Johnson | Tue Jan 03 1995 10:55 | 10 |
| A lot of people have stated goals similar to mine, with one
exception (# 4 on the list):
1) get & stay organized
2) avoid procrastination
3) exercise more and eat healthier
4) spend more time doing artwork
5) continue growing in the wisdom of His Word.

I'd have to say that our pastor summed up my number 1 goal
for 1995 in his message Sunday.
1) follow Jesus
He used the analogy of trying to follow someone in a car. They
know where they are taking you, and what road to take to get there.
You, however, may know the destination (and you may not), but
not the roads. You must pay diligent attention to the one
you are following so as not to get lost. There will be
distractions and interruptions, such as toll booths or traffic
lights, but you must keep a watchful eye.
That really hit home for me.
I have other goals, but they are not new to 1995...

I also have some of the same goals for myself this year..
1 Look to the Lord to guide in the following
2 start the day in prayer and meditation
3 organization
4 no procrastination
5 lose at least 1 pound per week
Some differences:
6 get more serious about my woodworking
7 find "gainful employment" back east
8 get closer to Peggy and my kids
9 spend more time with Peggy and the kids

| I hope to be a lot more consistent with worship time with my
wife and two daughters.
Beyond that, I hope to be more consistent with personal worship
and hope to realize more tangible ways I can serve the Lord.
I sure hope I'm more willing to allow God to more fully sanctify
me. I want to see Christ hung for me in a much more intense and
personal way than I presently do. One that really evokes some
tears of deep repentance.

Never mind, Steve..having gone back and reread the statement, I understand..
I have the same problem (giving God control of all aspects of my life..)
I seem to think I can do a better job of it :-(

649.12 | My 1995 goals are: | CSC32::KINSELLA | A tree with a rotten core cannot stand. | Tue Jan 03 1995 18:06 | 13 |
|
- to concentrate on the breadth, the length, the height, and the depth
of God's love and to spend more time building our relationship from
my side.
- to cherish time spent with loved ones.
- to be a better steward of all that God has given to me.
- to take steps to find where and how God wants me to use my skills.

649.13 | with the Lord's help | POWDML::MOSSEY | | Wed Jan 04 1995 12:52 | 20 |
| I really relate to Kym's .1 note
- to live in the present, not the past or future
A good goal, and one of mine too!
Often I feel there are too many choices in front of me, and not
enough time to make them all work, so I wind up doing nothing. Kind of
like a kid that has too many toys to choose from - he's on sensory
*overload* so he can't play/function at all. I pray the Lord would
calm me down, which I believe He will if I can be more faithful in
another goal: more consistent prayer and reading His word.
I think an important thing to remember is that none of us can meet
these goals on our own. We only have the power and victory through
Lord. I realize more all the time how anything I attempt on my own is
doomed to fail. "If the Lord does not build the house, they labor in
vain" (sorry, i can't post the scripture)

649.14 | make it measurable | CAM3::LINDSEY | | Wed Jan 04 1995 13:11 | 19 |
|
Just a suggestion, (need to follow it myself), it is important to make
these goals measurable, otherwise it is hard to know if we are meeting
them.
For example, re: spending more time with family...
change to... my goal is to spend at least 10 minutes a day reading to
my children, or we will plan a date with my spouse once a
month.
This way its not so vague and once something is measurable, its much
easier to know where to start to reach that goal.
Now, if I could follow my own advice!
FWIW,

| It's not too late to start reading the Bible through in a year as a
discipline. It is about 4 chapters per day. If you want to try it this year,
that puts you down by half the book of Genesis.
I read it through for two years running a while back. I think I tapered
of on the third year. But after two consecutive years, you wonder how I can
pull out some of the scripture references (without chapter and verse)?
Now you know. A steady diet of it can sometimes (honestly) be tough,
but like any discipline, tough it out and you won't be sorry.

649.17 | | ICTHUS::YUILLE | Thou God seest me | Thu Jan 05 1995 04:26 | 19 |
| I've aimed at reading the Bible through each year for some 10+ years now.
I haven't got through it lately, and I want to get back to that. I started
by reading a Psalm each morning, and in the evening, 2 or 3 chapters from
the Old Testament, and a few chapters from the New. It varies - sometimes
it's worth going on to fil in the context, and some of the epistles are
short enough to take at one bite. Or to take a small portion and chew it
over for ever...
I need it still, and must get back into the way of it. I don't need to
peruse the daily newspaper - even the crossword - which is dead time. I
don't rely on it for the news. Just a matter of self-discipline. One of
the simplest hardest things around.... ;-{
Somewhere I have a postscript file which lists the books of the Bible, with
a box for each chapter, to check the box when that chpter is read. If it
would be useful to anyone, I could find it...

649.18 | | PAULKM::WEISS | Trade freedom for His security-GAIN both | Fri Jan 06 1995 10:31 | 20 |
| To more fully live the "exchanged life." I've recently come across a book
called "They found the Secret," with about 25 short (5 page) biographical
sketches of people who have lived the "exchanged life," trading their old
selves in for the new self in Christ.
What I want most of all is to love as Christ loved. Human love is based on
who the other person - the person being loved - is. Christ's love for us is
based on who CHRIST is, not on who we are. I want to trade in my old heart
of stone and get a heart of flesh, a heart that loves because of who Christ
is, not because of who anyone else is.
Part of that will include a committment to daily prayer. I've always made
excuses about why I couldn't find a consistent time for prayer. The options
available still aren't great, but I'm done making excuses. I'm just picking
the best available option - early morning - and DOING it.
I also want to continue losing weight. I didn't quite make the goal of
gaining nothing over the holidays, but I think I limited it to about 5-7 lbs.

649.19 | update | GIDDAY::SCHWARZ | | Tue Apr 18 1995 21:47 | 21 |
| Well its now 1/4 through the year. I wonder how you are going with your
goals for the year. Have they changed? Have you achieved them?
Mine have changed slightly. actually I am working on a couple a areas
in particular. I have decided that I want to be know as a caring person
and the best way to do that is *be* a caring person. i am offering to
help more often and am offering prayer support a lot more than I have
before. i still have a way to go. Some people I find that I dont want
to care for them as much. I am being more bold in offering to pray with
people. this has proved to be a real blessing to me and them.
Another thing that I am working on is encouraging people and building
them up. This is something that does not come naturally to me. I find
its easier to write encouraging letters but encouraging people face to
face is difficult but Im working on it.
As for the rest of the goal that I mentioned earlier in the year, Im
not going to bad. I would say that I have moved forward and things are
looking up. Thank you Lord for helping me work through things and for
guiding me.
