614.0. "Ten Rules for Living" by TOLKIN::JBROWN () Wed Oct 19 1994 18:10
I found this and thought it was nice enough to share with all of you.
God Bless,
Janet
=====================================================================
Ten Rules for Living
--------------------
1. Keep skid chains on your tongue. Always say less than you think.
2. Make promises sparingly, and keep them no matter what it costs you.
3. Never let an opportunity pass to say a kind and encouraging thing to
or about someone. Praise good work done regardless of who did it.
4. Be interested in others - interested in their pursuits, their welfare,
their homes and their families. Make merry with those who rejoice,
and mourn with those who weep.
5. Let everyone you meet, however humble, feel that you regard him as a
person of importance.
6. Be cheerful; keep the corners of your mouth turned up. Hide your
pains, worries, and disappointments under a pleasant smile.
7. Preserve an open mind on all debatable questions. Discuss but don't
argue. It is the mark of superior minds to disagree and yet to be
friendly.
8. Let your virtues, if you have any, speak for themselves, and refuse
to talk of another's vices. Discourage gossip, and make it a rule
to say nothing of another unless it is something good.
9. Be careful of another's feelings. Wit and humor at the other fellow's
expense are rarely worth the effort, and they hurt where least expected.
10. Pay no attention to ill-natured remarks about yourself. Simply live so
that nobody will bellieve them. Don't be too anxious about getting your
just dues. Do your work, be patient, keep your disposition sweet,
forget self and you will be respected and rewarded.

| Most of these express sound Biblical principles. I thought of chasing
through a few references to back them up, but just haven't the time today!
Most are in Proverbs, but #5 is James 2...
thanks Janet...
