561.0. "Our Hobbies" by CSC32::P_SO (Get those shoes off your head!) Fri Sep 09 1994 12:43

Well, although we love the Lord and love spending time in
church and with church activities. We do spend time in
    other activities also.

What are some of the good, wholesome activities that you
    and your families/friends enjoy doing?

    Pam

    P.S. there Paul how's that?

Well, you all know now that I have started to enjoy kite flying,
as has already been said in Chit-Chat.

Are there any other kite-flyers out there, and if so what sorts
         are you using?

I used to love roller skating...now I'd look like bahama mama on
    wheels.

On the eigth day, God created GOLF! For me it is wonderful, to be
outdoors in beautiful surroundings, etc. It is a very humbling game
and one in which if you let your mind work too hard, the results are
pitiful - which is a great reminder for me, since I need to be
constantly reminded to, "Let go and let God...". Then there is boogie
boarding(having given up my long board) at our beautiful beach, just a
block from my front door. But, maybe the most fun is just walking hand
in hand with my wife, which we do a lot (as we do golfing and kinda do
    with surfing).

Of course, don't forget the sport that is mentioned in the Bible,
"baseball" (In the Big-inning...). We watch it, read about it, coach
    it, umpire and enjoy.

Funny, is there a string, or can you say that I am blessed by God's
    great outdoors.

I swim almost every day. At least a mile. At least 5 days a
    	week, and most times 6.

I also swim in masters competitions. I have some top-10 times
in my age group in Colorado this year.

I am also a very avid vegetable gardener. (Not flowers or
lawns or landscaping though.) I love to grow them, but really
am not very fond of eating them. Except corn. Not to boast,
but I can turn the most barren soil into a lush vegetable
    	garden!

Don't worry about the green thumb. Mine are brown from working

I love to work with wood, or really anything with my hands, when I get a
chance. My wife and I built our entire house, driving nearly every nail. I
even built custom flush-door raised panel cherry cabinets, which came out
great. Right now we're adding two rooms to the basement, a room off our
bedroom, and I'm trying to get stone walls built around a patio.

I also love particpating, and to a lesser extent, watching, various sports.
I can't ever stick with any kind of exercise program that consists of
exercise's sake like running or stationary machines, but give me a ball to
chase around and I'll do it for hours. :-). I've enjoyed playing basketball
twice a week at lunch for the past several summers. I do enjoy other sports
such as golf, but my life is too full to make the time for that as often as
I'd like.

Well, let's see now...I've got many extra-curricular interests.

First, I am convinces that there is a pack-rat in my family tree
somewhere. I have the compulsion to collect things (foremost are coins
and comic books). Since I recognize this as a compulsion (and a big
drain on funds), I have since stopped accumulating these things (though
I still have my collections). My most expensive hobby is my home
entertainment system, which is on the back burner (i.e. no funds to set
aside for new equipment at this time). 8^)

Outside collecting things, I take taekwondo, lift weights and run. All
are considered hobbies of sorts to me, and good for staying in shape
    physically.

After I get a house, I want to try my hand at gardening.

    Huw's a very keen cyclist - I tag along sometimes :-)

I used to be pretty good at archery, though. In addition to that, I
read a great deal (not so much since I started the course, though); I
like needlework (especially embroidery and cross-stitch); and I play
the guitar (classical and chords). I'd really love to take up the bass
guitar - I used to play at school - but finances don't permit at the
    present time.
561.10AMWS06::THELLENRon Thellen, DTN 522-2952Fri Sep 09 1994 17:4319
For me it is playing guitar, which I don't have much time for anymore
(:^(, and singing in the choir, which, because of school, I don't have
time for ((:^( x 2) because it conflicts with a school night.

As a family, we enjoy camping in the summer and sometimes spring and
fall. We usually manage a hike or two while we are out.

We also are what I would casual bird watchers. We keep a bird book in
our 4WD so that we can always look a new one up for identification and
one at home for birds that come to the feeder. As we see new ones we
mark the location and date in the books. During the summer months we
keep a hummingbird feeder out. In fact, we still have a few around,
though they should be departing soon and then we can look forward to
seeing them in April of next year. It is always the same ones that
come back because in April, before we put the feeder out, one will show
up looking for it in the same spot as always. They must have great
    memories!

I enjoy reading up on history. My favorite era is the
American Civil War. Also dabbled a bit in Greece, Carthage,
    Rome, Crusades, etc.

One thing about the mid 1800's that's left a huge impression
on me was the tremendous religious foundation. Scarcely any
public speech, military address, or letter home did not call
upon God's blessings or pray for support. Any elected official
who so referred to God these days would likely be arrested for
violating freedom from religion laws. Simply amazing how
we as a country have changed.

Myself I enjoy spending as much time with my 2 boys as possible. Of
course hockey is on the agenda. In the winter I will build an ice
skating rink out back and play with them until 10-11 pm. In the summer
we will "slap" on the roller blades and play street hockey. And all the
time in between we collect sports cards, mainly hockey. (of course).

We also enjoy playing all sports but most of all I REALLY enjoy being
their "pal" and not just their dad. Rent movies and video games and
cook popcorn is on the agenda every Friday night. :-)

Well, when I have free time, I do like woodworking, cabinet building
and such. I like repairing clock cases. I have several I need to repair
that were my grandfathers'. I do like making childrens furniture and
toys out of wood as well. In fact I have attempted to start a small
business at this... But am resigned to just doing local craft bazaars
    instead.

I like watching hockey, though in Colorado we don't see much. I do go
to the Air Forse Academy Hockey games when I can.

I also really enjoy being involved with the Scouts, so I consider this
    a hobby as well.

I enjoy playing my guitar and singing praises unto our heavenly Father!
I particularly enjoy when the Lord uses me as a vessel to lead other
people into His presence through worship.

I also enjoy being with my wife (even if she does drag has to drag me
through Marshall's from time to time!).

I enjoy doing whatever my kids like to do. My oldest (BJ-9) loves baseball,
so I play baseball with him. My middle son, Jeremy-7, loves to play on
the computer and is playing soccer for the first time, so I love doing
those things with him. My youngest son, Timothy -3 , loves playing
with his "Hot Wheels", so I love getting down on the floor and playing
cars with him. And of course, all of us guys love to get down and
    wrestle on the floor!

    Hmmm...

I was feeling rather boring, when this topic first started.. sorta like
    what do I do???

Then I realized that I do a lot! Perhaps not hobby type stuff, but
nonetheless rewarding.. like taking pajama rides with the boys, having
a candlelight devotion and/or dessert, reading books together, fishing,
    playing games...

But that's just everyday life... I suppose it's a terrible thing to
call your children your hobby.. but what else do I have time for!
    It's God, them and others.

I love teaching Sunday School, but as you know at this time, I'm
waiting for God's class for me. :-)

My hobby is also my business. I am a Nutritional & Holistic
Consultant, which is also the name of my business. I love to be God's
instrument for chaning peoples lives for the better, with the natural
    ways he has provided.
(My favorite recent example is a 72 year old Christian lady who was on
a lot of drugs for her heart[2 coronary arteries 80-90% blocked]. She
was significantly overweight and had problems with her nerves. I put
her on an herbal supplement for her heart, one for her nerves, and one
to help her loose weight a little faster - I also suggested some simple
dietary changes. She actually made most of the changes and took the
herbs. *** *** She has lost 2 dress sizes in less than three weeks
and many of her symptoms are gone. She feels MUCH better. Everyone
notices right away that she is looking better. :-) )

When I am not working here or counseling, I am writing
religous/political newsletters, or bible studying or spending time with
my pregnant wife and business partner. Somewhere I also squeeze in a
little time to eat and sleep. :-)

Lately my hobbies are changing diapers and vaccuuming
rugs, but if I have the time, I've got a few others.

I'm an aerobics instructor, not currently employed, and
a personal trainer/fitness counselor. I love to read
	about fitness and nutrition.

I like to bike ride, which I just started this year. Time has
only allowed me to ride once a week at most.

I run, which I sometimes like. Other times I do it because it's
like banging your head on the wall - it feels so good when you stop!!

I've been known to golf, though the clubs have sat idle for
over two years now, and I'm an expert skier, though the skis
have sat idle for over a year.

I love to cook, too (won't mention the other side of this - eating!)

My most recent "extra-curricular" activity will be assisting
with Discovery Church for the 4 and 5 year olds at our church.
I'll be leading one of the learning centers, which is a ten-minute
activity based upon the day's lesson (memory verse, crafts, or
	coloring).

I manage to keep pretty busy, even when I don't want to !

I like to read - anything from autobiographies of people who spark an
interest to the past and current on the British Royal Family. I like
"Our Daily Bread" a daily devotional that is published quarterly by RBC
(Resources for Biblical Communication). I also enjoy any type of
christian magazine (Focus on the Family, CCM, Virtue, Today's Christian
    Woman, etc...)

I like to ride my bike (which doesn't actually happen very often). My
husband runs and rides, and I can't keep up with him so I sit back and
watch :-) We do like to walk together (though even there I have to run
    to keep up with him!)

Renovating our home is a hobby to both of us. We totally renovated our
first house, sold that and bought another older colonial about 4 months
ago. We are currently redoing the full bath, and I have to admit it's
testing my patience (what patience?!) - so I'm getting 2 for the price
of 1: a new bathroom and 'character building' by the Master Carpenter
    himself.

Oh, I almost forgot...singing! I love to sing - in the car, around the
    house, at church.

Some of you might think me strange for saying this, but I like to
CLEAN! I wouldn't call it a hobby as it's really a responsibility but
when you like doing something it's not drudgery. It's one of those jobs
that you can see the results of and I like that (even if it's never
    truly done.)

Boy, when I started writing this I felt like Nancy did - I have a
boring life compared to these other people. Now that I've starting
thinking about it, I see there are many things I enjoy doing and do
well, but I just don't have the time or opportunity to do some of them
as often as I'd like: party planning (I've planned two 25th anniversary
parties, my wedding, several large cookouts, baby and wedding showers),
    floral arranging, writing poetry.

At first I didn't know how the crowds would be, but to my amazement,

    on a more serious note....

G-d says, through the prophet Isaiah (or 'Yesheyahu', another variant
on the notion of G-d being our Salvation - our Yeshua):

He was wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our inquities,
the chastisement that is for our peace was laid upon him, and
by his stripes we are healed.

He took the chastisement that should have been ours, and through it we
have G-d's peace - by His stripes, we are healed.

    G-d is so good,

Not so much a hobby, more of a determination to keep the old ticker
functioning (somewhat encouraged by the fact that the car is needed
during the daytime for childrens' taxi duties!).

And that is cycling, which I do to and from work each day, a distance
of about 5 miles each way including hills in BOTH directions :-(

The task was made a little nore enjoyable with the provision of a new

I also enjoy (?) the occasional game of squash, but don't play
regularly enough to improve my standard of play, but this doesn't
bother me too much as the main reason for playing is to enjoy the
