513.0. "Degree in Theology" by KIRKTN::GILLESPIES () Thu Jun 30 1994 10:41

    Hi,

Up to now I have been a read-only member of this conference, but I am
    looking for some advice.

I am considering doing a distance learning degree in Theology, which is
available from The Open Theological College.

The course is a mixture of modules available from various christian
colleges throughout the UK, including London Bible College, Oak Hill
    College and Spurgeon's College.

Over all it takes between 6 and 9 years to complete.

Has anyone done this or a similar course, and completed it ?

If so was it a benifit to your daily walk ?

Also is there any other courses avaialable in the UK ?

    Bye

    Stuart

PS I Will post a brief profile of myself next week, so that you can
start to get to know me.

Thanks Stuart. Sorry I don't know anything about the course you mention,
but it sounds very interesting, and I'd like to hear more too!

I think a lot of Theological colleges offer correspondence courses. I know
BTI (Glasgow) and Bryntirion (Wales) do. I suppose the former would be
almost local for you ;-)

Welcome, and we'll be looking forward to getting to know you!

					God bless

To save possible confusion for the majority of readers, I don't know if
you've cornered any other 'Glasgow's or even 'Bryntirion, Wales's, but the
ones I referred to are in the UK.....

Yes, there's bound be a Bryntirion tucked away somewhere in the
depths of the States - probably not with a Bible College tho'

    Hi,

The Glasgow Bible College (previously called BTI) runs a Diploma in
Theology which is equal to one year on the Degree course, but they have
no follow on unless you can do part-time.

The info I have is that the modules on the Open Degreee which can be sat
    in Level 1 are

    Introduction to the OT
    The Pentateuch
    Historical Books of the OT
    Old Testament Prophecy
    Introduction to the NT
    The four Gospels
    Letters of Paul
    Understanding Romans
    The writings of John
Understanding and using the Bible today
    The Greek NT
(of the above only two can be chosen)

    The Creeds,Their Making And Meaning
    The Holy Spirit
    English Church History
    God and The World
(as before two of the above)

    World Mission
    Christian Ethics
Ministry in the Life if the Local Church
    Evangelism
    Christian Worship
    Intro to Pastoral Counselling
    The Journey Through Life
    Understanding Islam Today
    (As before)

I am getting further info posted to me and pass on any useful details.

    Bye
