449.0. "Contacts?" by GIDDAY::BURT (Scythe my dandelions down, sport) Wed Apr 06 1994 01:37

Hello and Greetings!

I was wondering if anyone could provide church/bible study/people contacts for
friends of mine, Craig & Julie Plumb. They attend the same bible study &
church as I do (in Sydney). They're originally from England (Reading :^) )
& will be transferring to Thailand (Bangkok) for 3 years, they'll be leaving
in about 2 months.. They have no church or social contacts there.

Can anyone help?

Hi Chele,

I know a lady who used to be a missionary in Thailand, in the Bangkok area.

In fact, I've just telephoned her. She was principally involved with the
Thai churches, but says that as English-speaking churches go, there's an
Anglican church, whose precise doctrinal stance tended to depend on who
were attending at the time, and an International church, with an American
pastor (and I said it was English-speaking!), which is definitely
evangelical.

I'll be out at her church on 1st May, so she said she'd try to look out the
addresses etc for me for then.

Which church did they go to in Reading?

Another - met a friend at lunch today who knows a Thai couple. They were
at his church a few years back [on a course run by the church]. They would
go to an indiginous church, but speak English themselves. Names and
address etc should be forthcoming later (I'll see him Friday...)

Hello 'rew!

St. Thomas (early)

Your Friday is my Saturday, so I may do something radical like dialin
(& have a fight with the kb mapping)

 St. Thomas (early)

Earley is a district on the east side of Reading. I'm on the west, and
never the twain shall reach... ;-} Except that the friend I'm meeting
tomorrow also lives on the east side.

Hmmm... Our memories are not the best at times. Might not be worth
battling the keyboard for... But then, it just might ;-)

(Blush) I thought they meant they didn't get to sleep in at all on Sundays :^)
They've got funny accents - that's probably it! :^)

Either that, or they had to continue their slumbers in the pew....

Hmmm. Wonder where they were from originally then...? Not having an
accent myself makes me sorry for those with such impedimenta...

Hello and greetings once more,

Our evangelist, Tim Scheuer & his family will be leaving Sydney in early
February for Branson, Missouri (Ozarks).
Once they get there, they plan to start church planting (Tim is an evangelist
with the Church Army) and would appreciate some contacts there.
If anyone can assist, please respond here, or via mail.

Ta muchly,

Hi Chele,

Where (or what)'s Ozarks?

Any news of your friends who went to Bangkok?

						Andrew
449.11USAT05::BENSONWed Jan 11 1995 09:006

Ozarks are a mountain range, part of which is in our U.S. state of
Missouri. Branson is a town that has become a musical entertainment
    mecca, supposedly wholesome.

'lo &rew & all,

What is a "Bill Gaither"??? Donny Osmond I can recall had bionic teeth, but I
can't remember any of his/their songs (the teeth get a credit of their own)
Paper noses? or was that Marie....?

We have heard only rarely from the Plumbs - Craig is basy with work, and Julie
with various womens stydy groups (Bible studies) and prison visits etc. The
'phone bill is a bit prohibitive, so we've only rung them once. (and I'm not
good with paper mail)

Seriously guys, if you know of a church (established or otherwise, in Branston,
it would be great if you could let me "borrow" a contact.

2 adults - 4 kids.... one a baby - and it's a l o n g flight.... erk.

Thanks again,

Chele

Bill Gaither (along with his wife Gloria) were school teachers who several
years ago began writing Christian songs. They were 2 of the Bill Gaither
Trio who performed during the early 70's-early 80's. Among some of their
  well known songs :

     The King is Coming
     He Touched Me
     Something Beautiful
     Because He Lives
     Lets Just Praise the Lord
Jesus (There's just Something about that name)

And many more. Today they are working a number of projects reviving
Southern Gospel music and have a number of albums/videos out (the ones
I've seen are wonderful) and they are involved in a number of Gospel
  music activities in Branson MO.

Jim do you know some of the people that recording those songs besides
the Gaithers? I remember them from the late 60s, early 70s. I was
    just a youngin then.

I know I side tracked this note, but there is a genuine need for a
response, so lets try to keep it focussed! - to reiterate for
next-unseeners :

early February for Branson, Missouri (around the Ozarks mountain area).

Anyone reading this conference from SW Missouri? Preferably Branson, but
with only 2175 people living there (1970 census estimate, from my Rand
McNally), there might just not be any of them working for DEC - but there
should be in Springfield (pop 134,000 in 1979), which is only about 40
miles north of Branson... Looks a very attractive area, with a network of
wide rambling lakes, 'Shepherd of the hills' farm, 'School of the Ozarks',
'Talking Rocks', 'Onyx Cave', 'Cosmic Cavern' etc..., and it almost being
on the Arkansas border could be another attraction for those who live in
Arkansas... ;-) Sounds as if it could be worth a call in. Or a check in
your denomination branch book ...

Thanks all,

Ideally it would be nice to get a name they can say "g'day" to, and maybe
share a cuppertea?
