434.1Really spoke to my heartJULIET::MORALES_NASweet Spirit's Gentle BreezeMon Mar 14 1994 16:2818
I heard on Family Radio during lunch something that really brought a
*truth* alive for me in regards to child rearing.

This speaker [don't know who] said that oftimes as parents we believe
its "too late" to instill certain disciplines in our children or we may
see them rejecting spiritual things, rebelling against church, not
liking it or not wanting to pray.

He said, "Never give up on your children, Jesus died for them and has a
    vested interest."
    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

That just really hit home with me. It's never too late to get started
doing the *right* things with our kids because God has a vested
interest and will hear our prayers and help our inadequacies... Psalms
27:10 comes to mind on this one too.

434.4Trust in Him calms our fears, mends our heartsPNTAGN::BENSONMon Mar 14 1994 21:3818

"But let it be said very emphatically that the heart can only rest upon
and *enjoy* the blessed truth of the absolute sovereignty of God as
*faith is in exercise*. Faith is ever occupied with *GOD*. That is
the character of it; that is what differentiates it from intellectual
theology. Faith *endures* "as seeing Him who is invisible" (Heb.
11:27); endures the disappointments, the hardships, and the heart-aches
of life, by recognizing that *ALL COMES FROM THE HAND OF HIM WHO IS TOO
WISE TO ERR AND TOO LOVING TO BE UNKIND*. But so long as we are
occupied with any other object than God Himself, there will be neither
rest for the heart nor peace for the mind. But when we receive all
that enters our lives as from *His* hand, then, no matter what may be
our circumstances or surroundings - whether in a hovel or
prison-dungeoun, or at a martyr's stake - we shall be able to say, "The
lines have fallen unto me in *pleasant places*" (Ps. 16:6). But *that*
is the language of *faith*, not of sight nor of sense.

434.5Amazing Grace!N2DEEP::SHALLOWSubtract L, invert W.Tue Mar 15 1994 11:1919
Watched a show over the weekend, where the Pastor spoke of the Grace of God.
Here, from my scribbled notes, is a wonderful statement.

Grace is love that gives, love that gives where there is no merit, love that
gives where there is great demerit. Grace is love that gives to an enemy, love
that gives to an enemy that doesn't want it. Grace is love that cost the giver
all. Grace is love that took all our sins on Himself.

That's not exact, because he spoke faster than I could write. He went on to
speak of John Newton, the writer of the song, Amazing Grace, who had made the
statement:

I am not what I might be, I am not what I ought to be, I am not what I want to
be, and I am not what I hope to be. However, I am not what I once was, and I can
say with Paul, but by the grace of God I am what I am.

His servant, and yours,

Bob
