413.0. "Valentine's Day Fire" by AKOCOA::JEEVES () Mon Feb 21 1994 16:49

Over the past few months I've only been a reader of this notesfile, but I'd
now like to share my recent experience.

This past Monday night, Valentines Days, my two young children, my wife
and I, narrowly escaped our house fire with our lives. I'd like to thank
the Lord for sparing our lives and showing us His love and support from
His people around the Salem NH area.

Around 11:30 PM on Monday night my wife, by some miracle smelled smoke from
our first floor, when we went down to investigate we found that the main wall
between our family room and our living was on fire. We quickly called the fire
dept and dragged our children out of bed and into the freezing night. As
we sat in the ambulance and watched everything we owned go up in flames I
said lets turn our lives over to the Lord and let him protect us and direct us
from this point on. The four of us joined hands and prayed for direction
and thanked Him for saving our lives. We latter learned that if we had
stayed in the house for only another 3 minutes we would not have made it out.

The next few days were not easy, but with the help of our Church family
from the Windham Presbyterian Church (WPC) we are doing fine. The real
point of this note is that I wanted to share with you the Love of the Lord
that my family and I have felt from our neighborhood, and especially the
members of the WPC. We have been attending the WPC for about two years now
and knew some of the members, but everyone has been helping us with meals,
words of support, and on this past Saturday they all came over and helped us
clean everything out of the house. I've never felt so uplifted and loved in
my life. There is nothing left of our old house, but as we rebuild the new
home it will be built on a foundation of Loving the Lord.

I've rambled on enough, but I just wanted to thank Jesus for saving my life
and opening my eyes to His love.

Praise the Lord !!!!!!!

    Bill,

Thanks *so* much for taking the time to share this with us in
CHRISTIAN. God is good and while the loss of home and personal belongs
is tramatic, the comfort and grace of God is so evident.

I am reminded however, of the many who suffer and die in similar
situations and wonder what grace and comfort there is for those that
are left to question why. I am so thankful to know you and your family
do not fall into this category. I know He is sufficient in either
    case.

    Praising God with you!

Thanks for sharing, Bill.

Praise the LORD for His goodness in the preservation of life for the whole
family!

Are you covered for insurance, with continuing provision day-to-day just now?
Great to be a part of a fellowhship like that!

						God bless

So glad that you and your family were alerted and able to escape the
fire. While I'm sorry to hear that your possessions burned up, I'm
delighted to hear of the great response from your local church!

Thanks for sharing this testimony...it is really an encouragement to
    me!

    In Him,

    Hi,

It's me again (Bill). I want to thank you all for your replys and
to let Andrew (reply #3) know that we do have insurance. Even our
insurance issues are being handled with the help of the Lord. The day
after the fire we called the insurance company and they told me to
meet the insurance adjuster at our house. I took my eight year old
son with me because he wanted to see his room. I warned him that I
was going to have to spend time with the adjuster and he couldn't
understand what this man was going to look at our house for. When
we arrived at the house to meet the adjuster we learned that the
adjuster was my sons Sunday school teacher from the Windham
Presbyterian Church. We were both so happy to see a fellow Christian
and a friend there to help us with all the insurance issues.

It's all these "little" things that continue to keep me in awe at the
power and the love that I've seen from the Lord. HE is truly a great
    GOD!!!

    Praise the LORD !!!!

Yes, God care about the details.

    (parphrase)

Consider the lilies of the field, they neither toil nor spin,
yet I tell you that even Solomon was not arrayed like these.

Consider the birds of the air, they worry not about what they
will eat. If we ask him for bread, will he give us a stone?

    Jeheova loves his own.

Very encouraging testimony - thanks for sharing!

May God continue to bless and comfort you during this trying
    time!

Talk about strange coincidences (I always have to chuckle when I write
    that ;')

Bill, the author of the base-note, is one of my Managers. He in Stow
(Ma), me in Sydney (Aust.) The really great thing is that he and I have
met a couple of times now (he is in Oz right at this time), and
although an astute manager, he is also a wonderful and humble Brother
    in the Lord.

We shared fellowship over coffee yesterday afternoon, and he shared
this part of my testimony with me. He said that he points to this
incident as to when God 'broke through' to him.

Bless You Father God that You saw fit to speak to my Brother's heart,
and draw him and his family to You. Thank You too, Lord God, for the
Fam'ly that rallied around in the time of need. Praise You lord God.
