400.11 | Beat you to it, &rew! SNARF!!! | FUJIS2::PHANEUF | Tue Feb 15 1994 07:47 | 45
Snarf, again! Beat you to it, &rew! 8^{P Yeah, my manager failed to live up to his promise to hire me permanentl. (He blew that off several months ago), I;ve been (boy I hate terminal emulators! Let me try that again! He blew that promise off several months ago, I've been "just" a contraor since then. Well, despite further assurances recently that I was secure until the end of the fiscal year, I got my notice a week ago. I'm all done this Friday. Moreover, I don't know when, if ever, I'll be back. Because of the strage Personnel rules hear in the US, I can't return to Digital for at least 90 days, as I've been continuously engaged by DECtemps for over a year. Additionally, I can see the handwriting on the wall. The future of VAXVMS is extremely limited, and is surely no where near the leading edge. Indeed, I suspect that UNIX and C are really not the futrure, either. Rather, I believe that desktop systems (like my MacIntosh, PC's and the like), utilizing visual based, object-oriented programming (ala VisualBASIC and VisualC++) are more like the future. DEC has no such software vision. It never could see much further than be next chip, anyhow. It's too bad, really, that Digital is so hardware biased, because some of it's software was pretty great... So, my future apppears that it may well lead away from Digital, rather than back towards it. See you later - "I'll be ridin' with Him..." Brian
