371.0. "David Stone" by PEKING::ELFORDP (Double Bassists have more pluck) Fri Jan 14 1994 06:04

The following reply contains an update on the physical condition
         of this man of God.

For those of you who do not remember him (including myself as he
left shortly after I joined Digital), he used to head up TNSG (The
New Software Group) which I believe was based in Spittburg (sp?),
please correct me if I'm wrong. I am told by those who knew of him
that he was very well respected, not least for the way he brought
a fresh approach to the workplace, which I understand was
communicated extremely well to those who worked with and under his
         leadership.

He left Digital in November 1992 to work as President of
         Operations Systems at AT&T...

                                     read on...

Extract from mail received 13th january 1994:
         --------------------------------------------

         Hi Guys,

I just received a call from Claudie Mueller ref: the status of
         David Stone.

To recap, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and it has
spread to the liver, which is why it was inoperable. So he has
now been on kemotherapy since early last year.

THe kemo has affected him physically very adversely, as you can
probably imagine. He now is on medication that give him
microdoses of the drug 24 hours a day, which means that he always
feels somewhat "out of it", but this is better than the violent
reactions against the stronger doses every three weeks. His
weight has stabilised, and he is being fed intraveneously as
night, as he had gotten so thin. His white blood cell count has
dropped, but basically, the doctors have not idea how long he will
         live.

He still works for ATT, but just part time, and he works alot from
home from a rather elaborate set up.

Even though I don't know him personally, I just really feel that
we are all closely related in Christ and that 'whatever we do unto
the least of these, his brethren, we do for Christ.'

Something really interesting though, when I asked about the
prognosis Claudia said, 'Well, the doctors don't know how long
he'll live, but if anyone can have a miracle it is David - I have
never met anyone with such a positive mental attitude - he is
such an inspiration, he is so fantastic and a joy to talk to.'

(Please let me know what you think, and do pass this on to anyone
         else you think should know.)

         In Him,

         Lisa

I will certainly be lifting up his family at this time.

371.4Fortunate to have met DavidSIERAS::MCCLUSKYFri Jan 14 1994 12:2611

I was fortunate to meet, share a meal and the podium with David. We
were at Babson College for the Winning Complex Business Opportunities
Focused Technical College, I was an instructor and he was our
commencement day speaker. God has taken home one of his bright,
articulate and caring people. I pray for his family to be comforted in
their time of loss. I thank God for ending David's suffering here.

    In His Love,

    Daryl

Lisa has permitted me to post the following message which I
received this morning, as last week she was considering purchasing
a card which those of us in the Reading DCF could sign and forward
         to him for his encouragement:

                             ==========================

         Hi Carl,

Thanks for the mail. I'm still glad I tried to find out about him
before he died; but it was interesting yesterday when I was
looking for a card: I actually bought one, but I had this funny
feeling that it might never get to him, but I bought it anyway
because I felt the Lord was showing me a glimpse of what He had
for David: the card is a photographic quality picture of a field
of red poppy's and mustard on a vivid green hill overlooking a
beautiful valley and more hills. And I felt that the Lord was
saying to me "Don't worry Lisa, I have him in the palm of my hand,
and I will take him to a beautiful place where he will have peace
         and there is no pain."

         In Him,

         Lisa

Just received a mail message saying that David's wife
Pat is requesting no flowers, but is asking rather that
donations be made in memory of David to Compassion International...

See note 2497.3 in the DIGITAL notes conference for the full message.
