An Ancient Faith in a Modern World
A Study of the Apostles' Creed from a Biblical Perspective
Sponsored by Christ Presbyterian Church, Nashua 

A nine session discussion course for interested DEC employees in Merrimack 
held over 9 lunchtime sessions at MKO2 - Bald Mountain Conference Room - 
Pole Location 2B08.  The first meeting will be on January 5, 1994, 
continuing for nine Wednesday sessions (12:00-1:00) on the following topics:

1.	1/5/94	I believe 
2.	1/12/94	in God the Father, Almighty,
        		Maker of heaven and earth.
3.	1/19/94	And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
        		Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost;
			born of the virgin Mary;
4.	1/26/94	Suffered under Pontius Pilate;
			Was crucified, dead, and buried;
			He descended into hell;
5.	2/2/94	The third day He rose again from the dead;
			He ascended into heaven,
			and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father 
                          Almighty;
			From thence He shall come to judge the quick and 
                          the dead.
6.	2/9/94	I believe in the Holy Ghost;
7.	2/16/94	the Holy Catholic Church;
			the Communion of Saints;
			the Forgiveness of sins; 
8.	2/23/94	the Resurrection of the body;
			And the life everlasting.
9.	3/2/94	Amen.

 THEME: The Source of Authority in Life

 Hebrews 1:1-2
 1  In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at 
    many times and in various ways,
 2  but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he
    appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe.
 
BIBLE TEACHING: GOD'S COMPLETED WORD TO US IS THE REVELATION OF THE SON,
	GIVEN TO US IN THE NEW TESTAMENT.

Preparation: 
	1. Read The Apostles' Creed and note questions that you have 
           about the creed.
	2. Read Hebrews 1-2
	3. Begin a personal journal for this discussion group 
           (You will not be asked to share this with other members 
           of the group.)  Begin by noting your beliefs about who God is.  
           Can you identify where you learned these things about God?  
           Also, note your reasons for taking this course.
	4. Consider the following questions for discussion

1.  What are some possible sources of authority for living?




2.  Is one source of authority just as good as another?




3.  What is your source of authority, and how does the Bible relate to it?




4.  HOW WOULD YOUR LIFE BE DIFFERENT IF YOU BELIEVED THAT THE BIBLE

	* Consider the following questions for discussion.

1. What does it mean that God is "Almighty"?

2. What does it mean that God is our "Father"?

3. If we accept the duties that we have been given and believe firmly 
in the Almighty power of God, our Father, in what sense are we better 
equipped to diligently apply ourselves to those duties than one who does 
not know God as an Almighty Father?

4. How is our knowledge of God as Almighty Father a help to us in the 
midst of suffering?

5. Why difference does it make if we believe that God created and 
sustains all things?

 THEME: We belong to Jesus Christ.

 Hebrews 1:5-6
 5  For to which of the angels did God ever say,
     "You are My Son,
      today I have become your Father"?
    Or again,
     "I will be his Father,
      and he will be my Son"?
 6. And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says,
     "Let all God's angels worship Him."

 BIBLE TEACHING: THE ANOINTED SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST, THE ONLY BEGOTTEN
        SON OF THE FATHER, FULLY GOD AND FULLY MAN, IS OUR LORD.  WE
        BELONG TO HIM.

4. What aspects of the Son of God as he is described in Psalm 2 are most 
foreign to our understanding of who Jesus is?

5. What are the some of the practical benefits of knowing that our Lord

 THEME: Christ delivered us from the power of death.

 Hebrews 2:14-15
 14  Since, the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their
     humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the
     power of death - that is, the devil -
 15  and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their
     of death.

 BIBLE TEACHING: JESUS CHRIST, OUR LORD, SUFFERED THE PAINS OF HELL FOR US,
        THAT WE MIGHT LIVE.
