| Hello,
I think we should be sensitive for the simple thinks of the life. We
should handle the unimportant things with the same attention as the
important ones. Example: One of our collegues has a problem. He asks
for help, but nobody has time to listen. My opinion is that we, as
Christians, should make a time out and listen what problem he/she has.
In most cases it's only that somebody has the time to listen, which
helps a lot. One of the biggest problems of our society is, that most
of the people have no time to listen, what problems our brothers and
sisters have.

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He
who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may
spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not
give up meeting as some are in the habit of doing, but let
us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the
Day approaching.

| Oops, Nancy - I mis-read your first note, and thought you were looking for
Scriptures. But here are a few things I try to keep in mind as I live my
daily life. I am far from consistent or perfect at it though.
1) Remember God's love. Be joyful in that. There is much more to life
than what we see here in the present, than what we know during our
earthly lifetimes - live in the present but towards the eternal.
2) Pray. Read the Bible. Listen to God. He will faithfully guide you.
3) Listen to other people. Be sensitive to them. Don't speak rashly.
4) Be compassionate, remembering how merciful and gracious God has been
to me, so I should be towards other people.
5) Be generous. Material goods are a _temporary_ gift from God for this
life, to be used to His glory. Greed and clutching on to things will
not give any lasting profit and can cause lasting harm.
6) Be honest. Deal with people honestly and fairly. Do not cheat or
swindle others.
7) Take the necessary time to recollect yourself. Don't be so busy that
you stress yourself out and forget all of the above.

| I owe a great debt to the work of Francis and Edith Schaeffer for what they've
shown by their example and writings in the area of living as Christians. A
couple of little books they've written talk about this area of practical
living. By Francis Schaeffer: "The Mark of the Christian". By Edith Schaeffer:
"The Creative Gift" (actually a composite of extracts from several of her
other books.
Another area that has been adding to my understanding of how to live has come
through going back to our Jewish roots. The concept that all of life is
sacred - that everything that ones does has an eternal significance and
speaks about your relationship to Jehovah has been having a major impact on
my world view.

My pastor, to me, exemplifies the traits I believe a Christian should
have...love, gentleness, kindness, genuine concern for the souls of everyone
he meets. There is no doubt that this man is a Christian. He doesn't hesitate
to ackowledge that he is a sinner and that he is no better than anyone else.
If I can somehow emulate the reflection of Jesus that is in this man's life
I will indeed feel that I am getting somewhere.

3John 1:1 The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the
truth.

The truth in this case is the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, the
truth of who He was and what he brought us. Gaius was loved by John
through Christ's love.
Therefore, we can surmise that Gaius was a Believer.
2 Beloved, I wish you above all things that thou mayest prosper and
be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of
the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.
4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
What does the Brethren testify of me? How is my testimony in front of
not only my church but my co-workers? Because not only did Gaius have
the truth, he *walked* it. People could see Jesus in Him. Can people
see Jesus in me?
5 Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the
brethren, and to strangers;
Am I faithful... can people depend on me? And am I the same to
strangers as I am to those who know me? Do I show myself friendly?
6 Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if
thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:
As verse 5 is linked to verse 6, Gaius was an example and witness
before the church as to how we should treat not only those whom we know
are Christians but also those of whom we have no knowledge of their
spiritual stance.
What kind of church member am I? Do I greet visitors? Do I treat all
the same regardless of appearance? How charitable am I?
