hi,
most of you may know that tomorrow, wednesday, sept.15,
is "meet you at the pole for prayer" day at schools
across the nation. this is an event which started
in 1989 by a couple of kids at a school in texas.
they met to pray for their school, their teachers,
themselves, and their fellow students.
last year, the event drew over 1 million junior high
and high school kids. of course, what they want to
do has been tested in local courts by local school
districts and city councils. bottom line, there is
resistence to public prayer in this nation, but so
far, the supreme court has ruled that this is a
legal and protected form of expression.
REQUEST:
tomorrow, between 7-8am local, kids are going to
be praying. i ask you to stop what you are doing
and pray for them. God hears prayers. they need
his protection, especially when they are doing
something so visable and politically incorrect.
PERSONAL NOTE:
i came home last night and asked my 13 year old
daughter how things went at school. she has been
asking kids in her school to "meet her at the pole".
since she doesn't know everyone, yesterday, she went
to her principal and asked him to announce "pray at
the pole" during tuesday's announcements over the p.a.
he not only said no, but said
they couldn't do the prayer thing - the superintenant
had forbidden it at all the schools. they discussed
it - he said he'd check with the super again - asked
her to come back today at 10 to talk again. she took
in a "student's bill of rights" document from Youth
for Christ; a bulletin from the "center for law and
justice" explaining the event and recent supreme court
decisions, and a letter from the "center..." stating
that all superintendents in the country had received
the bulletin. these were all things she had
gotten from the 800# promoting the event and from a
friend of her's at Youth for Christ. although it's
past 10am here, i don't know how the meeting went.
you can pray for her and thank God for her dedication.
also, last night, she got 2 phone
calls from girl friends who heard she was going to
be suspended if she prayed. i asked her what she
was going to do, and she said - "they can't stop me from
praying". also, a preacher's son in her school (he's
real cool) heard she was going to pray, came up to her
and asked if she was really going to do it, she said
yes, and he said he'd like to join her then.
God is good; God is supreme; God is sovereign.
keep praying,
jim.

| Jim,
be sure to let us know how things go... God will be watching out for
your daughter..
I can not believe the narrow-mindedness of these people. What are they
afraid of..?
This is nation wide..? I hadn't heard anything about it! I'll have to
ask my daughter about it!
Your daughter is certainly in my prayers..! Good luck to her!
God's strength.!

Subject: installment #2 - prayer at the pole
well, friends, the least i can do after asking for your prayers is to
give you an update.
kimberly, my 13 year old, just got home from school and called.
she was supposed to meet with her principal at 10. he postponed
til lunch, then again til 5th period. her 5th period teacher
said she would like to meet with the kids and pray tomorrow,
so they could be excused that period to meet with the
principal. this time, 2 other girls and the boy mentioned
before went with her.
the principal had not been able to discuss this with the
superintendent yet and decided that they couldn't meet
for prayer since he wasn't willing to make the decision
himself. as you remember, kimberly had taken three
brochures/documents with her for support. she was
going to ask what was going to happen if she did it
anyway, but decided to show him the material first.
they spent an hour discussing everything, including
their commitment, and their safety from other students.
bottom line, he wished them well and said they could
meet for prayer around the flag pole before school.
praise God, He is in control, isn't He?
thanks to all of you who prayed and responded to my
earlier message. after kimberly told me what happened,
i told her that friends all over the country were praying
for her, and she was "amazed" blown away. that message
drew prayers from as far away as boston - thanks, peter.
may God bless you all,
jim.

well, last update. she met several other students wednesday morning,
prayed til school started. they prayed for their teachers, other
students, and "lot's of things, dad". several students stood around
watching them as they prayed. a bunch of guys clapped for them
when they finished, no one showed any hostility. the principal
even came out to greet them when they first showed up.
God's has plans for these kids. praise His faithfulness.
thanks for your prayers.

| I believe there is another event scheduled for 12 September. I'm not
sure of the date really, but I did read in the paper that there is on
in September....
Does anyone have an exact date for this event, this year.?
The article I read expected the number of teens participating to double
from last years numbers.
It is a great sight to see.!
