:-)
And... sorry but I've never seen such a t-shirt. Maybe you could have
one of those custom t-shirt places do it up for you?

248.2 | ~~Shirts that say something. | COMET::FILHO | | Wed Aug 25 1993 23:27 | 33 |
| Good day..... I had this thought for some time, but hadn't let it go
futher than that. There's a saying that goes there's never a dumb
question. I ask this question for I have been wondering how should I,
or other Christians, stands are of this. So I ask, in Love.
I know that the Bible shares about how one thing can be a stumbling
block to one and not to another. For example, you might have a decked
out Licoln Town Car and you have no problem owning it. That is, it
don't make you stumble with your walk (becomes a god/idol, using it in
the wrong way, ect.). But to this other person, it is a stumbling block
and there walk wavers. There are some things that I call "personal
Choice" area. For like music. Some can listen to (even though being
selective to various songs) top 40, Soul, ect and not be affected
inregards to their walk. Some will say I don't, so you shouldn't. So
this is why I say that some things are personal choice areas, and that
it is between the person and God (let each workout there own salvation).
The question is that should we be wearing things that resembles so
very close to worldly symbols? There's the bud, coors, crossbones, biker,
ect logos. At first, to few, glances it 'appears' to be that wordly logo.
But up closer, then it is noticed that it has some kind of Christian
saying(s). Should we, Christians, wear something that looks so much
like one thing and tag on a verse/saying to it? Are we just using
these things cuz that's whaz up and alter it a bit to make it a
"Christian" shirt? Or is just okay?
The first impression that we see is what it looks so closly like, so our
minds go to that before we realize it's not.
There are creative, cool shirts out there that don't use logos that
are altered a bit here and there to make a statement.
+-+-+ Any thoughts to this? +-+-+

248.3 | Can I have an AMEN on this? | CIM1::FLOYD | "On my way to Heaven" | Thu Aug 26 1993 10:00 | 13 |
| I'm a T-shirt nut and have been for thirty years. I find that the more worldly
a shirt looks the more questions and inquires I get which equates to oppertunities
to share Jesus. Reguardless of what you do or do not do you will always be a
stumbling block to someone. Jesus said that the Word would cause many to be
hated for his name sake. Every time someone asks about my t's, they walk away
with a seed. It is said that on average a person is presented with the Gospel
5 times prior to conversion. Lord let me be anyone of those five. I feel even
the Religious that walk away in disgust, walk away with the seed of "why am I
embarrassed in the presentation of Jesus. The hardest hitting statment I have
ever faced has been the folks who have stated "Oh, I didn't know you were a
Christian." T's? I love them.

Amen, Dave!
I saw one the other day that showed a nail pierced hand with the
legend "His pain, your gain". I couldn't catch up with the guy to
compliment him though.
Saw another one that had what appeared to be the logo of a popular
alcoholic beveraged that said "Bud Wise up" with couple of lines about
the Saviour's sacrifice..
I am also a big T shirt fan, though admittedly I don't have any Christian
T shirts. My favorite T shirt was given to me by some friends before I
recommitted my life to Christ. Its a picture of a 1929 Henderson motorcycle
and underneath it says "The New Henderson". I've had a couple people ask
me what the new Henderson is, and I gladly tell them :-)

The front of that shirt is a picture of Jesus doing a push-up with the cross
on his back. The inscription on the cross it "The Sins of the World"
and above that is Bench Press This! Its a great T.

248.9 | For me the point is | CIM1::FLOYD | "On my way to Heaven" | Thu Aug 26 1993 14:36 | 15 |
| not am I sanctifying his name or not. It is, will I make every effort to proclame
the name of Jesus Christ in any way I can for the bennifit of the one not the 99.
I'd act the fool and lick a spark plug if I thought it would lead another into a
relationship with Jesus. Jesus himself said that he did not come for the
righteous but for the lost. I have to be in the world to throw the line of
salvation, but I am called not to be of the world. Jesus, in his time, constantly
went against the norms for a Rabbi. But he chose to do what he saw the Father do.
I find T's a good ice breaker in a non religious croud. I have never had a non
Christian come up to me and say " Thats a great 3 piece suit you have on and by
the way what translation of the Bible do you have there." My method however, and
thank God, is not the only way to reach the lost. It's just one way. And your
right for the most part loud T's are a stumbling block to the righteous. But then
again so was Jesus. I feel i'm in pretty good company.

You might be right. I think I put you on the defensive and I assure
you that was not my intention. If you have the peace to wear that, then
I'll iron it for you!
It's just the description of that particular T you mentioned made me think of
Lord's work on the cross as a common thing. You know bringing it down though
with good intentions. Perhaps it doesn't strike anyone else that way, but it
did me.
BUt then again I'm wondering, how many people have been won to the
Lord as a result of wearing such a shirt? I mean is it really effective?

248.11 | On the defensive? not hardley but | CIM1::FLOYD | "On my way to Heaven" | Fri Aug 27 1993 10:16 | 16 |
| thanks for being concerned. My way is not everyones way and I thank God for that.
It would be a boring life if everyone did it the same.
How many folks have come to the Lord because of T's? Hard to say. But if it was
just one, it would be worth it. Jesus would have still gone to the cross even if
he knew it was just one that would be saved because of it.
I also have three piece suits with real button suspenders. But I only wear them
when it is required. I'm a T and Lee kinda guy and I do try not to offend, but
I would much rather offend a person down here than weep for the lost prior to
entering into the kingdom. I also take to heart the passage "and this is the
meaning of eternal life. That we may know God and his Son whome he has sent." I
want to enjoy God here on earth to the fullest and this is one of the ways I do
it.

Karen,

They can't even find it in any of their catalogs to order it for me.
A friend has one and he got it from Calvary Chapel in Wichita, Kansas.

instead says "Heavenly Divine Son" (back of shirt). Underneath it it says "Worship
the Best or Die Like the Rest" I'm a junior high youth leader and the kids
love the shirt. It is manufactured by a company called "Living Epistles". I
regularly get shirts from them and can post the address and telephone number if
is interested. BTW: They also produce "The Lord's Gym ... His Pain, Your Gain"
T shirt as well.

| I like some T-shirts and not come others. I saw a great one recently that from a
distance said ROCK and ROLL in big lettering. When you got nearer you saw the
smaller words in between so it said "I've got my foot on the ROCK and my name
on the ROLL". It was a good reminder to me, too!
Can anyone tell us right-hand-side-of-Pond-ers where to buy Ts with Christian
designs in the UK or Continental Europe, please?
God bless, Richard.

I've had adverts with Hosanna! music listings, and I've seen teh 'feet on

were doing outreach at the Reading Rock festival last year... I'll have to
ask him (again) where he got it...
And I need to mail you too...!

248.20 | I approve of T-shirts, but be careful | BIGRED::SPARKS | I have just what you need | Wed Nov 10 1993 11:18 | 25 |
| I saw a shirt the otherday that was getting lots of attention. A young
lady had a shirt that on the front said in huge letters
DON'T
FIGHT
NAKED
On the back it had the diagram of the full armour of God, I'm sure she
was able to explain this to lots of people.
I approve of T shirts as an icebreaker, but remember, when you are
wearing a T-shirt (Like mine that says Promise Keepers - Men of
Integrity). You are advertising you are a Christian, and non
Christians will be very critical of what you are doing.
So don't yell and shake your fist at someone who cuts you off on the
Freeway, don't be impatient in a long line in the grocery store,
remember when you advertise, you have to be that much more careful to
show the world that you really are different.
By the same token, If you are wearing the shirt, and are patient,
charitable, and honest, people will know why and this will make a big
impact.

Glenn,
I agree with what you say...
Lately, my daughter had been asking *lots* of questions about her
sexuality and such... In some cases defending the views opposite those
she would know to be proper.
We (her parents and youth minister) were getting confused... Because my
daughter *knows* her Bible, and what it says about the subject....
Well, to make a long story short, one theory we have come to is, she
wears "Christian" T-shirts *all the time* to school.. Well, we're
guessing (because we haven't finished investigating) that other
students, perhaps some who support an opposing view, are harassing
my daughter and attempting to forcefully change her beliefs on the
subject...
We are still looking into this. The guidance councilor at school is
monitoring those who approach my daughter. The school psychologist will
also be talking with her, to see if some of this information can be
drawn out of my daughter...
Meanwhile, we have requested that she *NOT* where those T-shirts, until
this problem subsides..... She has chosen *NOT* to take this advise.
Which is OK with us, as long as she understands what these other
students are attempting to do....
So, beware of what you advertise on your t-shirts....
Bob
