224.0. "Abundant Life in a box!" by TAPE::LKL (Raise morals, not taxes) Tue Aug 03 1993 10:11

I have a friend that I am wanting to create a care package of sorts for
him. He helped my friend and I move a few weeks ago. We were good at
labeling the boxes for their destination at the new place.

One box, however, was lableled "Sue's Life in a box", as a joke.
It had her Bible, cordless phone, and important papers regarding
    college and her kids, etc.

This friend Jay carried the box into the new place and asked about it
the contents ans we joked around about it.

The next day he came to church with me. The Pastor talked about God
having a plan for your life and that he has given gifts/talents to be
used for Him and His glory.

The next day he was talking to Sue and he said that the pastor's sermon
really got to him and that he didn't have a life and not even a box
to keep it in, if he had one.

I am thinking of getting a box that holds an "Abundant" amount and
placing in it things that represent what God gives through a personal
relationship with Jesus. I need some creative ideas on what these
    things could be. Any ideas?

I don't want to simply do little cards that say "unconditional love",
"grace", "eternal life", etc. I need some of the collective creative
juices that God has supplied to His Body represented in this notesfile.

    Any ideas appreciated.

What are some of the things Jay likes to do? I noticed your friend's box
had a telephone (and assumed she liked to talk with friends onthe phone).
If Jay likes softball, for example, or even watching baseball, go
get a ball. If it is expensive stuff, like cars, find a symbol to
represent it, like a matchbox. Naturally, a Bible and/or good book
from CBD might make a [hopeful] addition to his life box. Oh, and
be sure to include a picture of you and Sue, who are a part of Jay's life.
I'm glad to see you care! :-) ;-)

He is a mechanic. He likes motorcycles.
He likes playing pool/billards & cards and shooting archery.
He plays golf and softball (but not recently).
He likes watching me play softball.

> He is a mechanic.

Representative tools (wrench, ratchet - photograph or ad of premium tools)

>He likes motorcycles.

Harley insignia (if that's his "hog") or some other sew-on patch

> He likes playing pool/billards & cards and shooting archery.

An 8-ball? (Not the one's with the thing inside)
A deck of bicycle cards.
A toy bow and arrow (Andrew got one for his birthday - arrows are foam)
Might be cheaper to buy a single arrow with distinct feathers.
                                         ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
> He plays golf and softball (but not recently).

A bag of tees and three golf balls; a pass to a local golf course (two
if you golf, too!)

> He likes watching me play softball.

A team cap. A signed softball.

    :-)

    Congrats Lisa... gimme five!

Now, be sure that the contents of the box only has 24 items.

    Nancy,

The first thing I noticed was the noter: "Hey, haven't heard much from
LKL for a while. Good to see her." About a microsecond later, I
noticed the note number. :-) It figures. :-) :-) If the box was for
Lisa, we'd just fill it up with 24's!

I've been reading/skimming/browsing the notesfile every day, except
    when I was on vacation.

I thought of a possible item for the box.

The laundry product "STAIN STICK" that removes stains.
I was thinking of labeling it "FORGIVENESS".

I once saw a Living Epistle T-shirt that looked like a Harley Davidson
shirt with it's logo, but it said HOLY DAVID'S SON. Instead of

                                  MOTOR

                                  CHRIST

Kind of get my jist on this....

Those are some great ideas, Lisa!

I'll put on my thinking cap and see what I can come up with.

Maybe a "GET OUT OF JAIL FREE" card and call it Grace.

    getting something you don't deserve.

how about a make believe record album with the titles:

STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN on side A - GRACE (getting what you don't deserve)
HIGHWAY TO HELL on side B - MERCY (not getting what you do deserve)

[BTW: I lknow the lryical content of the songs and that is not point,
just the titles to help represent the difference of GRACE/MERCY.]

I'm thinking of includeing an NIV Study or Student Bible, as well.

Maybe some JOY dishwashing detergent for the fruit of the Holy Spirit
    called joy.

For righteousness that comes from Him alone through the cross, maybe
a container of 409 and tape on it EXODUS and a colon between
    the 40 and 9.

"Take the anointing oil and anoint the tabernacle and everything in
it; consecrate it and all its furnishings, and it will be holy."

Maybe a "Titlist" golf ball and the scripture of one's name being
    written in the Lamb's book.

    3-in-1 oil? A staple in every home workshop! :-) It's a general
purpose oil (prevent squeeky hinges, etc.) Available almost anywhere.

Dove soap. 25% cleansing cream, 75% perfume.

    Gold Bond powder -- hmm.

    How about:

-- a loaf of bread (for the Bread of Life)
-- a light bulb or flashlight (for the Light of the World)
-- a map (to show you the Way)

Does he have an apartment or something with a kitchen that could stand
a few additions ? I know many men don't cook much, but what about a
a set of measuring spoons & cups with verse about receiving a full measure -
pressed down and running over of God's graciousness (or something like that) ?
I'll look up the verse tonight. And maybe the ingredients for a spagetti
dinner to go with it - box of pasta, some sauce, some cheese, a loaf of
Italian bread ... ?

And how about a photo album with a dedication written on the inside cover,
and some pictures of friends in the first few slots - the rest to be filled
later as he builds a "life".

I like the golf balls idea someone had.

What about a cassette or two of favorite music ?

Maybe some socks along with the verse about angels guarding your feet so
that they don't stumble ?

And a set of masculine looking post cards or note cards for staying in touch
with friends or long-distance phone gift certificates with the phone company
of his choice ? I know ATT has these, I'll bet the others do too.

A t-shirt had decorated by a friend or friends to remind him that he does
have a life ?

Well, that's all the ideas I can come up with for now.

I think its a really nice idea Lisa, I hope that you can bring it fruition &
that it is a real uplifter/encouragement to him.
