213.0. "Continent References" by GLDOA::KATZ (Follow your conscience) Mon Jul 26 1993 11:57

I was wondering if there are any direct or indirect references
to North America, South America or Australia in the Bible.
I realize they had not been "discovered" at the time the
    bible was written. ;)

Hello, Dan'l,
Welcome to the Christian conference. I know of no such reference in
Scripture to the "other" continents, or Gondawanaland, for that matter,
continental lifting and separating and all that.
Is this all you want to know? A binary, "yes, it does" or "no,
it doesn't"?

213.3Ezekiel 38:13?ICTHUS::YUILLEThou God seest meMon Jul 26 1993 12:2915
Hi,

Naturally these places could not be specified by name, as they hadn't been
given names by the people who didn't know them ... I have heard one view
that the Ezekiel 38:13 reference to "merchants of Tarshish and the young
lions ...." etc indicates the western limits of the world. The
interpretation gave Tarshish, as the then western limit of Spain. However
with an extended view, this could be UK and even the US.....

The logic of the context would fit with this, as this specifies some
eastern conglomeration homing in like vultures on an undefended Israel.
The western nations respond with the typically politically uncommitted
query "Are you geared up to plunder?", without actually intervening...

Possibly the wilderness that the woman is caught away to in
Revelation is the United States.

Maybe Texas... 8*)

Hi Jim...who's not Dan'l. Did you know Dan'l? Are you related? What
color eyes do you have? Shoe size?

    I'M JUST KIDDING! :-)

Anyways, nice to see a new face around here!

My mistake, Jim. There aren't too many Metcalfe's on the net, but I should
have suspected there'd be more than one KATZ.

213.8'americas' Reference?ATLANA::SHERMANDebt Free!Wed Jul 28 1993 17:2710
   Hi Jim,

The reference to the 'americas' couldn't possibly have come from that
television commercial just now getting lots of airplay could it? You
know the one I mean, where a denomination talks about how _their_ book,
in ADDITION to the Bible, is the authoritative source of God's word.

   Curious,

	Ron

.8 refers to an LDS (Mormon) ad.
