142.0. "God is Love" by DECWET::WANG () Fri May 14 1993 13:53

A few months ago, a brother in a Bible study meeting said that God *has
to* die on the cross, there is no other way to show His perfect love to us. I
could not comprehend at the time and I was thinking he could send someone else,
may be an angel, as sacrifice to redeem our sin. It does not *have to be
Himself* to show or prove how much He loves us. The person could not quite
explain it so that I can understand it and the other brother said God does not
have other choices which I do not quite accept it as well.

This morning while I was still in bed and was sort of in a praying state
and was thinking his statement again. I began to understand it. It is the same
thing as God is all justice so He can not sin. It is also the same thing as if
you love your children, you can not just hire someone to raise them, you have to
do it by yourself. It is also the same thing as that every time I see my older
son suffer from allergy of dustmite, I wish I can suffer for him. Of course God
has all kinds of alternatives to show his power and existence but to express how
much he loves us, to finish His work of salvation and to outpour His love onto
us, there is really no other way! He wants and He wills His death on the
cross in order to save us. His loves is worthy!

For those who think Jesus is just an agent of God, He loves you much
more than that. For those who think God does not care for you enough, He loves
you much more than that. May God forgive me my slowness and inability to
understand the fullness of His love.

    Wow Wally!

Remember me? It's great to hear how God is revealing a deeper
understanding of His love to you. It's so exciting... and thanks for
sharing it to refresh us all on that Truth.

    In Him,
    Nancy

Since this is Valentine's Day, I thought it might be appropriate to ask
folks to share how they *KNOW* God loves them. :-)

    Hi Nancy,

I've known His love by experience, confirming His saying so in the
letter He wrote me (the Bible).

I remember when my daughter Caroline died a bit over two years ago how
He especially showed me His love in the saints who ministered to me,
His letter which spoke to me and the very presence of His Holy Spirit
    who comforted me.

And then daily I know His love through His letter and through His
    Spirit.

God is alive and in me! Comparing this to the spiritual death I have
known there is no doubt that His love is real and personal.

Being one who remembers the loss of Caroline, I too felt at that time
the outpour of God's love. You see it was His love through me that
allowed me to share and encourage in such a tragedy as this.

I've thought often of your loss and know only that God's grace is
sufficient. I thank God for your testimony and faithfulness. This too
is an expression of love; *your* love for our Lord.

I thought it might be appropriate to ask folks to share how they *KNOW*
 God loves them. :-)

Roger died about 3 weeks back. His 4 children, aged between 5 and 14, and
Penny, his wife, have been 'strong' in a way only the LORD could give.
Just to see their faces brings tears to my eyes. You can see that they
have a hot-line to heaven.

"A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, in God in His holy
   dwelling."
								Psalm 68:5

"The LORD watches over the alien and sustains the fatherless and the widow."
								Psalm 146:9

OK - so 'all the church' has been praying consistently for them - but His
love is such that He hears and answers those prayers most abundantly.

Then there was Hugh, Sue and their family, not only kept safe through that
head-on crash, but looking stronger than they ever were before, in spirit.
Hugh is still on crutches, but radiating peace and joy. Their car was
beside ours going home from church on Sunday, with Sue driving...

How do I know that God loves _me_? So many ways that I couldn't begin to
enumerate them here, largely because the most significant ones are those
closest to my heart, which are not yet ready to be proclaimed, and the
others, while precious in themselves, are minor by comparison... He is
faithful day by day, when I am weak; He gives the Word needed for the
moment...

On Sunday morning I'm due to be taking a service where there's a
children's talk. I thought we could put together a Valentine's day card
for the LORD, remembering all His goodness .... or at least some of it! ;-)
I guess that could be fun... I hope He enjoys it.

142.8HOW DO I KNOW GOD LOVES ME?MSGAXP::DYERThu Feb 16 1995 11:1822
Hi Nancy,

This question is not only a fun one, but an easy one. I could spend an afternoon
telling you how God has blessed me in outward expressions of Love.

First - he saved me (in the Navy!!)
He blessed me with a wonderful wife (long story on this one)
Both my boys made a committment to the Lord
I was able to buy a house - something I never thought I was able to do.
I am still employed - consistently doors have been opened for me.
I am very happy with the new church I am attending and with fellowship

I have had problems, but these were part of my growing experience, so
I count this as a blessing as well, (even though painful).
Getting out secret sins is always tough, but what a relief!!!

This has been a good year for me. I know from your sharing that you have
been blessed by his love too. Praise the Lord.

Steve

   Hi Nancy (et. al.),

Some items that spring to mind are:

#1. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting
        life. (John 3:16, NKJV)

#2. For God so loved me (!) that He gave His daughter Marilyn to be
my wife, in fulfillment of Genesis 2:23-24; she is described in
Proverbs 31:10-31, and I am learning to love her as Christ loved
        the church.

   #3. Ephesians 2:4-7

#4. 1 Peter, chapter 3 for the primer on daily living.

   Thanks for asking,

	Ron
