I haven't been directly involved with PF except as a supporter, but I
know Ken Olsen is/was on the board of directors for PF. Also, DEC does
matching gifts with PF.

I'm new to this notesfile(I haven't introduced myself in note 12
yet). In our church my wife and I are involved in the Angel Tree
program. Angel Tree is a program from Prison Fellowship International
(Chuck Colson's organization) that provides gifts for the children of
people in prison. Applications are made by the prisoner to the chaplain
who then turns them over to Prison Fellowship. PFI, in turn, gives
them to participating area churches. Contact is made by reps from the
churches to find out what gifts would be appropriate and the gifts are
bought, wrapped and delivered. It is a tremendous outreach and a
wonderful way to share the love of Jesus christ. A contact we made two
years ago and maintained through our food ministry just got saved last
Sunday. He was released from prison just before Christmas and was
there when we delivered the gifts. It has been a tremendous blessing
(though not always easy) to minister to this family and the joy of
welcoming Robbie into the family of God just cannot be described.
My wife just became area coordinator(yesterday) for central MA and
there are 250 more children that need to be placed. If your church is
not participating and you think they might be interested, forward the
name of your church and phone number to me by e-mail and I will pass it
along.
Instead of giving gifts to certain members of my family this year
we are giving a card with letter explaining the program and that the
love of Jesus has been shared in their behalf. Someday soon I will
introduce myself in note 12. God bless you all for your input in this
wonderful notesfile. It has been a blessing.

supports the Prison Fellowship.

Thanks for the response. I have been told that PF over here in Perth
began Angle Tree last year and plans are underway to implement the
project at the country prisons next Christmas, so it looks as if yours
truly will be involved.

How many children are involved in the project in your parish?

| Last Christmas the parish supported twenty Angel Tree children.
I don't know a lot about it; except that my wife and I purchased presents
for Angel Tree children; others were involved in delivering them.
The support of the Prison Fellowship is in the form of a financial
grant.

| ...just catching up on different topics, so bear with me.
Prison ministry has surprisingly become near and dear to my heart. I
never could figure out why my Mom would willingly serve 7 years at
Walpole (Cedar Junction) prison here in Mass. until I began to serve in
prison myself. It's a blessing! I've been going into a local prison
for about five years now.
Our church sponsored the Angel Tree program for the first time this
past Christmas. It was such a success that we're going to do it again
next year. While some folks may be put off by actually going into a
prison (meaning, that they may feel scared or unable), most folks are
glad at the chance to help brighten the families that are locked *out*.
Also, for those of you who work in and around the Hudson, Mass. plant,
the Christian Valuing Diversity committee is sponsored Jos� Mattos in
June. Jos� will speak about his prison ministry (full-time for several
years, now). This would be a wonderful chance for you to learn more
about prison outreach!
