63.0. "Crisis Pregnancy Centers" by TLE::COLLIS::JACKSON (Ferris wheel) Mon Mar 15 1993 16:52

The Christian Action Council which was started
in 1975 by Dr. C Everett Koop, Billy Graham and
another man or two for the purpose of combatting
the deaths of the unborn which multiplied in the
wake of Roe v. Wade has just had a new change of
presidents.

The new president, whose name is Guy Condon :-),
is advocating a different approach, one that is
long overdue in my opinion. The new call to arms
is to outlove the opposition. This is how the war
for the hearts and souls of the next generation will
be won or lost - not by speeches, not by providing
tools/knowledge for disease prevention (although there
is certainly a time and place for this), but by
being there to love (not judge!) them when the crisis
hits.

In 1981 the first Crisis Pregnancy Center opened its
doors as a seperate entity sponsored by the Christian
Action Council. From the start, CPCs have been known
by their love for the woman *regardless* of why she
is there, *regardless* of her choice if she is pregnant,
and *regardless* of her relationship (or desire for a
relationship) with the risen Lord. They continue to
minister where the rubber meets the road providing

 - full factual knowledge of fetal development
 - full factual knowledge of abortion (though
locally this does not include graphical info)
 - full explaration of all choices
 - full acceptance regardess of ultimate choice
 - post-abortion counseling

What it does not provide is judgment.

The preceeding was posted for those who actually want
to do something useful in the fight to help women in
crisis and love their unborn children.

There are about 450 Crisis Pregnancy Centers nationwide
including 2 in Massachusetts (Cambridge is one) and 7
in New Hampshire (including Nashua, Manchester, Concord
and Laconia). For those of you who remember Jamey Nordby,
he was the Chairman of the Board of the Colorado Springs
CPC. It is to a large extent because of Jamey that I
volunteered to serve at our local CPC (Nashua/Manchester
run by one Board of Directors) and am now a board member.

If you want to be involved, there is work to be done.
Please contact me or a local pregnancy center.

Anyone wanting to be involved with the Colorado Springs Pregnancy Center and now
the Woodland Park Pregnancy Center can contact me. It has been my pleasure to
serve on the CSPC Board of Directors with Jamey for the past eight months.

Update on Jamey Nordby:

They are expecting #4 in April, I believe.

Jamey is starting his own mortgage brokerage business. We should probably
call him President Nordby, if we ring him up.
