| WoW... David, you bet I would.
It was because of him leading Nicky Cruz to Christ, that God used to
reach me... all alone on my bed, while reading "Run, Baby, Run".
I had the opportunity to hear David Wilkerson prophesy in 1974, about
the wiles of television and how explicit (nudity, etc) would become.
Many of you may not recall, but in 1974... *any* type of nudity wasn't
permitted... I suppose late night TV had some, but really late night.
I remember thinking it was far fetched, he even prophesied that
cartoons would depict sexual acts... sigh, that is certainly true these
days....
Nonetheless, just reminiscing... :-)

Dave,
FWIW, the Boston Church of Christ will be starting a "Cross and
Switchblade" type ministry in Boston this year. This will be a gang
outreach ministry to the barrios of Boston.

| Hi Dave,
Do they deal with introductory samples? I'm looking for the right stuff,
selectively, and would like to try. I've seen his books, of course.
Four kids from our church went forward at a Nicky Cruz rally here in
Reading last year.

39.4 | gang names? | JUPITR::DJOHNSON | Great is His Faithfulness | Fri Mar 05 1993 09:10 | 5 |
| Anyone remember the names of the gangs that David Wilkerson worked with
in New York? In the course of my work I have just run into someone who
was involved in the gangs of New York during that time period.

Wasn't Nicki Cruz a Mau Mau?

| You know having read the book 20 years ago.... yikes, I can now talk in
double decades.... whew!, I don't remember, but that struck a chord in
me.
The most powerful thing to me about that book was David Wilkerson's
love that overflowed out to those gangs...
Sigh, Lord, to rise up men like that today in the numbers needed.
Respectfully,
Nancy

I'd be surprised. The Mau Mau's were a tribe that led a bloody
rebellion in Kenya a number of years back.
Unless, of course, a NY gang took on the name....

rebellion)

| Mark,
There was a gang that used the name Mau Mau's. The person I just met
who was involved with the gangs told me how bad they were. They were
among the worst. I believe they were a black gang and the gang that
Nicky Cruz was in was a rival Puerto Rican gang.

| Hi,
I've just looked out my old copy of 'The Cross and the Switchblade'. Nicky
& Israel belonged to the gang called the Mau Maus [ Spanish ]. There was
also the Chaplains [ Negros, who's leaders made the first profession of
faith ], GGIs, Dragons [ in which were the original boys on trial ],
Rebels...

about its background. Thanks for the note.
