29.1 | The Master's Indwelling | GUCCI::BPHANEUF | On your knees! Fight like a man! | Mon Mar 01 1993 12:19 | 30 |
|
Dear Borthers and Sisters,
Obviously, I started this note because I had something to review.
I counsel you - each and every one of you - to run, not walk, to the
nearest Christian book purveyor and purchase *AND READ* "The Master's
Indwelling" by Andrew Murray!! It is not a new work, but I believe that
it has just been republished for the first time in a long time. I
purchased it Friday, started reading it Saturday evening, and was
constantly putting it down - in tears and repentance before G_d. I have
restarted reading it with my wife, as I wanted her to receive all of
it's benefit.
If you struggle with holiness - not abstractly, but practically - then
get this book. If you struggle with secret or other besetting sin -
then get this book. If you want to be able to follow your L_RD and do
His will, but have been finding it difficult to do so - then get this
book. If none of the above characterize your life, then get a copy of
the Four Spiritual Laws and start there - then get this book.
The words in this book have utterly changed our lives and spiritual
walk. I can not begin to tell you what a difference it has made - and
we're only up to Chapter 2!
PLEASE - I beseech you - get this book. (It's only about US$5.00!)
Earnestly,
Brian

29.2 | here's a couple new ones | FRETZ::HEISER | raise your voice in shouts of joy | Thu May 20 1993 13:36 | 10 |
| I'm currently reading 2 books that I highly recommend.
"How Close Are We?" - Dave Hunt. A look at prophecy and how close we
really are to the 2nd Coming of Christ.
"Christianity in Crisis" - Hank Hanegraaff (current President of CRI).
This book is an alarming, yet very interesting look at the Faith (Name
it & Claim it) Movement and some of their occultic roots.

I agree, Mike. I'm about halfway through it and find it well documented
yet easy to read. The local Christian bookstore has taken all of Benny
Hinn's books off the shelf and replaced them with "Christianity in
Crisis".

I think I'm going to dash to the local Christian bookstore tonight and pick
those up.

I picked up both of the books that Mike mentions (Christianity in Crisis and
How Close are We?) Couldn't figure out which to read first, so I'm reading
them both. I can't seem to put down Chrisitanity in Crisis, however.
Fascinating book and the efforts the author puts in documenting his claims
is astounding. At one point in my early Christian life I had an open ear
to a couple of the people mentioned in the book.

I have the same problem, Jim. I'm reading the book for a second time to
pick up what I missed the first time around and I can't seem to put it
down.

I'll probably have to do that myself. I did have to reread a chapter last
night cuz I fell asleep reading it yesterday afternoon (not the books fault)
Everytime I turn the page I'm more amazed at how things can get so distorted.

Quite the coincidence, Jim. I did the same thing yesterday with the
same book. What is it about lazy Sunday afternoons? :^)
> Everytime I turn the page I'm more amazed at how things can get so distorted.
I'm continually amazed at how scripture is distorted to suit one's
purpose. That's why I was pleased to see the tremendous effort the
author put into footnoting and documenting every quote. It's almost
hard to belive that people would actually say these things.

| When I come up for air, I'll enter the article on the Faith Movement
from a recent Christian Research Journal. It's sort of a Reader's
Digest version of "Christianity in Crisis."

Re lazy Sunday afternoons...I don't usually take naps. But this was a busy
weekend and for some reason I was awake at 530AM yesterday and it all caught
up with me at about 3:30 yesterday afternoon. So I dozed off and woke up
just in time to head to the church for our class on Revelation, and managed
to stay awake :-)

Sandy, Jim? How about some exerpts?

Glad to, Mark. Do we need to worry about copyrights and such stuff.
I have the CRI Journal you were talking about, Mike, and would be glad
to enter the article tomorrow if you can't find the time.

| You are always permitted to write exerpts for "reports" and the like, which
you would be doing. See the copyright pages. It usually says, "*no* part,
etc *except* for blah blah blah."
It is good form to supply the bibliography.

That or we could split it. If you exclude all the footnotes (but have
them available for those that wonder about sources), pages 18-19 and
20-23 look about even. Pick half and I'll do the other.

with 20-23.
